I have a website which is up and running, which I made myself, I am keen to start selling on eBay next.
I created a html eBay template for my auctions to co-ordinate with my website using dreamweaver 8.
I've filled in a few with bead details etc, ready to cut and paste into the description part of the eBay auction.
I'm a little confused now about how to link my pic's? what do I put as the url? how do I work out what it is?
the pics are on a hidden page of my website, so its not as if you can just click on them and read the gibberish address stuff at the top, I know what I called them but can't work out how to link to the darn things? any ideas?
Ellie not sure what you mean, but do you want the pic to take you to another page?

Right click on the picture, and hit "copy image location". Then paste this is as the picture URL with an img src= tag.
Make sense?
If you want a picture to link to a site, then build like this:
a href="ebay url" img src= /a
(I left out the <>'s as I was afraid they would get interpreted.)

sorry to confuse you, I am totally rubbish at this!
the problem is I've done my eBay template in html, how do I now add pics to it once its in eBay? I don't want to link to anything, just get the pics to show up on my auction template once its pasted into eBay description's.
where should the pic's live/ be stored? mine are currently on a webpage and the pics are saved in with all the images for my website and have been uploaded to my remote site!
can I link to the pic's on my actual PC somehow? or do I need to use some kind of host? or will my website be enough? then what do I put to make the pics come up on my eBay auction template? I know the eBay template and the pics have been uploaded (I can see them when I view my remote site) but because they aren't linked to the actual website I don't get how to reach them? so can't work out what the html to link to them from eBay would be.
am I making any sense yet?

If the pictures are on a website already, they are already hosted.
Just link to them there with an img tag.
If they aren't hosted, they need to be, or hosted by eBay directly. I think they charge more money for that.
I host my pictures on my website. Feel free to use "view source" and take a look at what I did. I just hand code my html.

Right they are hosted on my website, okay so how do I work out what the url for my pictures actually is?

Find the image in your browser.
Right click and "copy image location".
That URL is what you want. Just paste it into your code for your ebay auction.

I assume you have a link to your images on your ebay template, which looks something like:
<img src="http://www.stardustanddreams.co.uk/images/yourPic.jpg">
When you copy all of the templates' HTML into the Description section of the listing page, the link will be copied with the rest of the html.
If you don't have the image link in the template, it's back to the web editor. Just position the link to the image where you want it and copy away.
When you uploaded the image to your server, you probably put it in a directory. I put mine in a directory named 'images.'
Like Jeff said, go look at the image you want and right click on it. Then select Properties and look for Address (URL), that is the location of the image. Just like in the tag above, the address will be:
http://www.stardustanddreams.co.uk then a '/' followed by the directory name on your server where you put the image. I always put mine in a directory I created named 'images' this is followed by a '/' then the image file name.
This is confusing stuff. It just takes a few times and you will be a pro.

I understand what you all said and it does seem to make more sense! BUT!
the damn pics still wont come up. could it be because my web addy is a redirection from my free webspace with ntl? could that be part of my problem?
I have been trying it out in a test auction on eBay and filling in my html and then doing a preview, and I've tried various ways and can't seem to get the pics to come up at all, and now the rest of my images have run away on my template as well. (where's the head banging against a wall smilie when you need it) my logo's not coming up, nor are any of my little association graphics EG Lwetc logo and SRA! I just don't understand what the problem is, obviously I've done something stupid, or should of done something differently? anyone got a clue?
ETA- I just tried to add the URL direct to either the pic's on my website as well as the eBay template on the website and it kept coming up with invalid URL!

I'm pretty sure you can't redirect image URLs, so that's not the problem.
It shouldn't be this hard. ***You'll need to post the HTML for us to figure out what you are doing*** Try using the "#" sign at the top right of the compose message screen on LE to stop the code from being interpreted.
For instance, I'm using BB code to post a picture of your beads here... I just right click to copy the url, and paste it here inside the IMG tags:

I stored all eBay templates in a section of the website called ingeniously "eBay Templates" with the following files "Tornado Twisting.html"
pics are just in main website section EG "/Tornado Twisting.jpg"

I wonder if its not a very silly mistake on my part, I recently nearly killed my website by accident fiddling with stuff! LOL none of my pics would come up on my website but that was because they needed to be all in the root folder and not in a seperate image folder, well thats what I was told, I ended up having to copy the contents of my image folder into the root folder on my remote server. did the job tho, but i can't explain how or why Sorry!

Ahhhh....
You are only adding the filename part of the URL, not the server name....
It's like telling me I need to to to 25 main st to get my image, and not telling me which town or state.
Copy the URL while browsing your web site (on your server, not your personal machine) from a regular browser, not browsing the HTML editor you are working from... That will give you the server name included.
Or just add the server name to the src part of the img tags.
It works on your website because the browser assumes you mean on your site.
It can be hard to figure this stuff out, but with time you will get a better handle on it.

Other than the space between Tornado and Twisting that looks good.
You could replace it with a %20 (encoded space) but frankly, it's a better practice to never include spaces in filenames. It will only get you into trouble.

To see it here on LE, replace the "<" with "[". It's a forum thing, but fix the space issue, and that should work on the eBay ad.

Sorry... you did what I said, not what I meant...
Try this:
http://www.stardustanddreams.co.uk/Tornado%20Twisting.jpg
But really, go try it with HTML in your eBay template so you don't get confused with the LE BB code and HTML... I've done it myself sometimes :)
It's like french and italian.... you say the same thing different ways.

Well, that didn't work.... Just go play with the ebay HTML code...
But seriously... kill all spaces in filenames.

Got it. Replace the
img src="/lee-ellie/Tornado Twisting.jpg"
img src="http://homepage.ntlworld.com/lee-ellie/Tornado Twisting.jpg"
That should do it. Let me know.
Some other considerations: The names of image files and folders are case sensitive to most servers so establishing a naming convention is important. I have all of my image names in lower case only. Ditch the spaces, if you like a tidier name use the underline instead of a space.
