I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but here goes anyway. Does anyone know where I can buy the tiny corks used in vessels? [-o<

Thanking you!

I've gotten them at The Cork Store (https://209.167.253.244/cgi-bin/webcart/webcart.cgi?CONFIG=mountain&RET=5&RCATS=Make+Selection&FIRST_TIME=Yes&START=1&OCATS=Regular+Length&DOSEARCH=YES&CODE=76779).

Thank you Toni! I have just emailed them to see if they will ship to Australia so I'll keep my fingers crossed for now.

Go to ACE"s True value Hardware store. They do have them in all sizes.

Angel...
I just bought some on Ebay, and the gentleman has a website as well. www.pilotvials.com (http://). His name is Mike and is great to do business with. He sells them on Ebay in packs of 100 so you don't have to buy tons to meet a minimum order.

I got the link from you when you posted it somewhere. Want to take the opportunity now to thank you..!! I had been looking for corks from someone that wouldn't require $50. for a minimum order for just corks. His delivery was fast and it was very easy.....thank you Tink.!

My pleasure! One thing to remember with corks is that you will have to cull a pretty high percentage of them, probably. I like nice, tidy, smooth corks, so I toss about 50-60% of every batch. Just the nature of the beast, and not a reflection on the supplier at all.

Thanks for the link Vickie! What size do you use as I'm a bit confused by the sizing on his chart? I use the 1/8" mandrels so would that be the 000 corks - 1/4" top and 5/32" bottom? We are metric over here so when it comes to those sort of measurements my mind tends to go blank. ;-)

I ordered the #000 but I'm using either the 5/32 or the 3/16 mandrels for my vessels. I do have the #0000 corks from before and I'm almost positive I was using the 1/8 mandrels to fit those corks. I would get the #0000 corks for 1/8th mandrels. Maybe someone can jump in and either confirm or correct me to be sure. Or you can ask Mike at the pilotvials website what cork would fit the 1/8th hole to be sure.

Mike's corks are only listed as small as the #000 but I'll email him to make sure. I'd hate to get 500 of the wrong size.

I don't use smaller than 3/16" mandrels, and I use #000 for those. For the 1/4" mandrels (my standard), I use #00.

Remember, too, that size varies within a batch, so you have some leeway in each direction.

Hi Tink!

While I'm here I just want to say that your vessels have always been an inspiration to me. \\:D/

Now onto the corks....Mike emailed me back and said I would need the #00 stoppers for the 1/8" mandrels so now I am thoroughly confused as to what I should order. I would actually like to use 1/4" mandrels as I'd like the bigger opening at the top. Do you know where I could get some of those or would I just pick them up at a welding supply store? Anyway perhaps I should just get some of the #00 and some of the #000...what do you think?

Thank you, Carol!

Because of the size variance in corks, I suggest getting two or three sizes to keep on hand. Even the thickness of your bead release and how vigorously you clean out the openings will affect the size cork you require. I keep two sizes on hand: #00 and #000. I just dig around until I find an attractive cork for each vessel that fits.

That sounds like a good idea, I will do that thank you. :)
