Pleace can you help me with pixidust?
i don't no if i must encase it or not and can you show some pictures?
greatings Margoke
you do not need to encase, just warm your bead up nice and evenly and roll the bead in the pixie dust (use a respirator - pixie dust is not good for your lungs). tap off the excess.
Gently melt the pixie dust into the bead. You can get it fairly hot, but if you overheat it, it will boil. Practice will teach you how hot to get it to make it stick well but not boil.

The pink and white beads have pixie dust on them: (excuse the beads, I'm still very new)

I'm not sure about the encasing part, I did try coating pixie dust on clear and pulling into stringers and it was a complete disaster.
Encased pixie dust will spread out a bit and expose your base glass a little bit more and sometimes can look a little muddy.
When I make plain pixie dust beads, after shaking, I wipe them in a many times folded wad of wet paper towels and then give them a quick warm up before popping them in the kiln.

Let us know how it went for you. Also, the base color of glass can affect the look you get. There are some basic beads used in my Pixie Dust Color Chart (http://www.listen-up.org/kitty/beads/pearl/charts.htm) I've been meaning to get more complex beads up there to show what is possible. Oh well, perhaps when I finish up the other projects I'm working on.
I love to encase pixie dust and I use it to add glitter to my jellyfish mantles as well. Treat it kinda like dichroic...work it cool and slow.
Here, I've rolled black in pixie dust, encased in clear then added more layers for vines and flowers, etc.

Here I've done the same thing with some of the silver blue glasses.

And here is a jellyfish.

Hope that gives ya some ideas.

Just as a side note, I've tried using different colors/brands of eye shadows and those don't work. They just burn to ash. Not sure why I tried, but there you go. ;)

Very nice chart! I bookmarked it in my Favorites.
As the higher temps didn't fry the powder, I'd think you could use them with boro. They could be rolled in the stuff after the bead was made and before going to the kiln, with the excess removed after annealing -- I've done that with flowers.

I thought I had lost the link to the beads that actually started my interest in these powders, but I just found it again. I LOVE these Starfish Beads (http://www.rejiquar.com/GlassBeads/peggy_starfish.html).

add me to the chart lovers, too :)
And, another pixie dust tip - if you are going to put anything on top of it, make sure that you've really wiped it down on a damp cloth or paper towel well since the glass won't stick to the loose pwd.

I can't say for sure what brand she used, but the lady whose page that belongs to mentions Pixie Dust so I assume that's what kind was used. I personally prefer Pearl-Ex, and automotive powders are another alternative.

I like to roll the beads in the pixie dust and the rub off the excess on a piece of leather and then gently reintroduce it back to the flame and heat to flame anneal.
