I've been wanting to try some of the dark transparent with gold leaf - so, tonight was the night - what a waste!!! What's the magic to get that stuff to work - I tried working out in the flame and making it a cooler flame but just burned off all that gold - managed to get a little by some encasement but wanted that "color seeping thru" effect! EEEKKKK!!!!

Lynn - You probably would do better with Pallidum (sp). More expensive, but won't burn off like gold leaf. When your making your bead, burnish the leaf real good, then keep it warm way high in the flame (constantly turning the mandrel). Hope this helps!

You could also use gold foil. Really expensive but it doesn't burn away as easily as the gold leaf.

Hi Lynn,

The gold foil that Val Cox sells (damn, i just checked and she's out of it...) is practically impossible to burn off, and it's not that expensive. Anyway, you might want to check it out... Regular gold leaf burns off *very* easily.

Here's a hollow I made with Val's gold, and I had to work like crazy to burn off the gold so the turquoise frit would show through.

That's the effect I was trying to get....I order regularly from Val...just have not needed the gold foil as I've had this leaf that was an early purchas and now, several yrs later, felt I should be able to use it....WRONG! I'll order some from Val! Thanks!
