View Full Interactive Version Of This Page : Opalino annealing temp?
Does Opalino have a different annealing temp or schedule?
The last bunch of beads I made looked pasty and opaque instead of translucent.
It's the same batch of glass and everything else is the same as the last group.

I don't really have an answer for you, but you looked lonely in here.
Could you have worked the glass longer this time? I don't use opalinos much, so I have no idea if that makes a difference, but it sounds good, huh? :???:
 Toni!
I'm doing everything the same. I don't know what the temp was for the first set (so long agao...), so I was thinking that was the only thing that may have been different.

According to the annealing temps I found in this thread (there's a few charts here, the most updated is one of the last posts) it doesn't look like opalinos are different. I could be wrong though and often am. :)

Thank you Bubby!
I can't figure it out!

Found a thread about it at WC.
Maybe it will help.

I've never annealed it differently.
Same as I use for 104, 96 and 90.
Seems to work ok.
I really need to work on working it cooler though.
It's a beatch to work, but if you can get the hang
of it, the colors you can get are soft and luminous
- sort of like Satake, but without the "melting like butter"
qualities Satake has.

My experience with opalinos has been what Karen is talking about. The longer I work them, the more opaque they look.
Or it could be a different batch. Who ever knows anymore?
Thanks guys!
As far as I can tell, all the things I've done are the same with the annealing being the only thing that I could have messed up.
Maybe it's a one time thing, the moon was full, the stars weren't aligned and there was a gremlin in my kiln.
I hope I figure it out because I loved the way the older beads look but the newer ones...eh, not so much :(
Anyone have any updates to this issue? My opalinos (both moretti & Lauscha) are beautifully translucent going into the kiln but come out that pasty opaque colour - NOT what i wanted.
The WC thread recommends a lower annealing temp - maybe i'll try that next? i normally anneal everything at 980F but maybe next session i'll just stick them in the vermiculite and batch anneal separately instead....

I am no expert, certainly on opalinos, from a class I took with Leah Fairbanks she encouraged us not to let them sit in the kiln for a long time, in other words to have them be the last beads of the day you make. Maybe that would help?
