View Full Interactive Version Of This Page : Anyone know of any great torch sale right now?

OK....I've sold a ton of stuff to afford the best torch I can get my hands on...and have $435 saved up which could get me the Lynx I was dreaming of...then I think if I went with a less expensive torch I could buy my marble mold and some veiled cane I've been dreaming about...

Or...I could sell about another $100 worth of stuff I haven't used sitting around here and move up a bit from the Lynx even.

I read some people saying hold out for the absolute best torch you can afford. Then I think hold out and do that.

I have tanked oxygen and propane. Don't know if I'll ever be able to afford an oxycon.

It's killing me I just got a sample pack of Momka's and have no torch to work it now. I've been all over the internet looking up torches. And researching on a lot of different forums.

My head is spinning!!! So confused. I want to still do soft glass, and smaller boro marbles and pendants. :-?

Love reading everyone's two cents' worth on this forum. It's the best information I've found so far. THANKS!

We don't really do sales. But, our torch prices are usually a little lower than most places I believe.

If you are sticking with tanked oxygen, I would highly recommend that you check out the Knight Bullet Burner (http://www.soleiletlune.com/webstore/product.php?productid=16135&cat=251&page=1) It's the same size as a Barracuda, but much hotter. The center fire is the same as the Knight Little Dragon, and it has a 14 port outer flame. It's a little more than the $435 you have to spend right now, but it's a LOT of torch for the money, and a good $250 cheaper than a Barracuda.

The Knight is a great torch, so is the Barracuda. The Lynx is also a great torch. It really depends on what kind of work you want to do now and where you think you might be headed with your work in the future. Many folks swear by their Lynx, I love my Barracuda, and I have a friend that would never sell her Knight Bullet. Just depends on what you want to do. Is there a way you can try out some of the torches you are looking at??

It sure does sound nice....maybe I'll have to put the rest of the stuff up for sale in the garage sale. So two sets of knobs...one set for the center fire and one for the outer? Is this okay for tanked oxygen? So you use the outer ring more for tubing and stuff like that? Sorry such a newbie here. I've never taken a class or seen anyone use a torch except for myself or in a few videos I have. How does that work if you have the center fire going and you want to use the outer rings? Just turn on the knobs? I'm afraid too of being overwhelmed like I was with the major/minor.

Do you know how long the Knight Bullet will be at this price?

Kimberly, I pretty much live in the sticks. I don't know of anyone closer than 2 hours away. Madison has the Vinery, but I don't know what they teach on and there's someone another 2 hours away that gives lessons, but that's $200 for 2 days and then I definitely wouldn't have money for a great torch. Thanks for the info. There sure is an abundance of nice torches out there.

Yes, two sets of knobs. PERFECT for tanked oxy! I run tanked oxy on all my torches and wouldn't want to run anything else! There is a point with torches, that a genreator or concentrator just won't push it enough (IMHO). If you get a Knight or Barracuda, you are getting a bigger torch that probably won't run at 100% efficency with a concentrator. I know there are quite a few people that run a Lynx with concentrators, but you would be best to get input from them on that. I also have a GTT Phantom, but I use tanked oxy for it also.
Yes, most people use the outer ring for tubing, etc, and when you want to get a big gather hot FAST!! Works great and not much of a learning curve. Yep - you just turn on the knobs, unless you are set up for foot pedals (more $$ but worth it if you are going to be working a lot of tubing).

Don't think of it as overwhelmed - think of it as an adventure!!! A dangerous one - but fabulous just the same. Just go slowly and carefully at first. Try out all the flame settings, play with it a little until you are comfortable.

I am not sure what you are asking here??? Duh - just figured it out - a question for Cosmo. Sorry Cosmo!!!

I taught at the Vinery but I cannot remember what torches they use. Sorry about that. Is there an ISGB group anywhere near you?? Might be worth checking into. Travel time to the meetings would be the only cost and you would meet lampworkers in your area and maybe someone could show you the ins and outs of working with a bigger torch. Something to think about!

The two sets of knobs control the inner and outer fire - one set for the inner and one for the outer. Torches like that are much more suited to tanked oxygen than to concentrators. You use the center fire most of the time for things like making beads and pendants. You use the outer fire for tubing and large pieces. Of course, that's a generalization. Different people work different ways, so you may find that working differently works better for you.

That's our standard price. So until Knight goes up them, that is what the price will stay.

And, since there isn't anywhere near you to try one, I'll make you the same deal I make everyone else - buy the torch and try it for seven days. If you don't like it, send it back and I'll refund you everything but your shipping and 10% of the cost of the torch (since I can't sell it as new any more).

Well, the wait is over...bought a Betta, Mike A. had one left over. I just had sticker shock and was just plain wore out from all of the decision making. And I didn't want to be overwhelmed again like with the Major/Minor mistake I made. That was just too big of a step. Cosmo, thank you for all of the information. That is an awful nice offer. If I don't like the Betta I'll be saving up for that Knight. You've just been so helpful...thank you.

I really like the Knight Bullet Burner.
Its a whole lot of torch for the money.

Finally got the Betta hooked up last night. It is quite nice. I can't believe it can melt boro with as small of a flame as it does. I have kept the flame small and played with it with a smaller flame for now. I think the knobs are on opposite sides of what my Minor was, so that seems to be taking some getting used to.

Hi friends,
If you are in the Wisconsin area and looking for a torch, give us a call. We carry quite a few torches, and are happy to show you how to use the torch you buy. We use minors and mini ccs in classes. If you are looking at a smaller torch like the minor or mini cc, you can try ours out before you buy one. Tanja, sorry I didn't see your post earlier! Hope the Betta works out for you.

Elissa, Cool!!! Thanks...I will be down there some day to take a class. Still want to see what that mini cc is all about! (When I can get down there for a class that isn't full!)

I wanted to ask something too about torches so i hope i can do it in this thread, if not let me know and i'll open a new one

I'm working on a minor right now with 2 oxycons and want another torch. More heat is what i want and a wider flame to be able to work larger pieces better but also to still be able to do stringer work. For soft and hard glass. So i'm thinking about a Cheetah or a Knight junior dragon. The Cheetah has 12 jets, the Knight has 21 jets, big diff in prices too.

Can someone please help me getting the right torch :waving:

TIA!!

As much of a fan of the Knight torches as I am, I wouldn't really recommend the 21 port model. The problem is the head is so large that it's hard to get a narrow flame. If you are considering a torch that size, I would suggest a Knight Bullet. It's the same size as the Junior Dragon, but has a separate inner and outer flame. It's a little more expensive than a Cheetah, but it's a lot more torch.

You can certainly use a Junior Dragon. I know many people that do. But you can't get a pinpoint flame, if that matters to you. If that isn't a concern, it's a great torch.

Thanks for your answers!!

But i'm reading in Kimberly's post that my oxycons won't push the torch (Bullet) enough and i don't have tanked oxy. Have to do it with my oxycons. How bout that and do i also have to connect the oxycons together as i'm doing now or are they going seperately to the torch(es)?

Thanks again
