I read a thread recently that told of ASK "mystic grey" changing at a temp around 1050 but I can't find the post now!!!
Does anyone know which thread it might be hiding in?
Thanks,
Darlene

That may have been me. Before I got my digital controller I would set my kiln temp to 1050. Mystic Grey does a silver coating on the surface and looks like pewter. I just need to program in a special setting for it so I can do that again. Here's a picture of a killer set of beads I did...unfortunately I used Lauscha purple and they cracked...however you can see the Mystic Grey and the cool reduction type thing it does. When I got my digital controller and had it set for 960 it didn't do this so it needs a higher kiln temp to get this effect.

That is it! Thank you. I had some kiln temp problems too but hope I have solved them. I think I will buy some of the mystic grey and see what happens. Thanks for sharing the information....I doubt I would have ever thought about a change in this glass at a higher kiln temp.

You're welcome! You might want to order a little Desert Chameleon. It does the same but it's a bronze color.

Just when I was trying to curb my glass buying habit.... I will try them both!
thanks

Mine turns pewter / metallic pearlescent sheen on melting and forming the bead. I crank the propane regulator higher to get that effect on all the ASK glass, as well as the reduction colors. No need to set the kiln temp higher this way.
Here's a change in the mystic grey when reduced. I'm not sure if this was what you were looking for though.
