Retorching a Marble/Paperweight

Hi! Just a quick question regarding reheating a marble or paperweight that is softglass...I know to put it in the kiln and bring it up to temp...but when I introduce it into the fire do I put it in fast and heat it up or do the gradual introduction into the heat of the flame??? I just don't want the huge mass to explode...which do you do???

Very gradual. The bigger the thing, the slower you introduce it to the flame.
