Is there a reason to have both of these yellows? I find the difference in color barely perceptible. Does one color do something magical that the other does not?

Hey, Lil - have you tried melting them yet? You can't always tell just by looking at the rods. And batches vary, particularly with the special colors. 416 is supposed to be even lighter and brighter than 404 (hence "acid yellow"), but it's possible that the two batches you happen to have look similar. I've gotten different shades of 404, some lighter, some darker. If you buy one of them again next year, you may get something completely different.

And magical? As magical as primary yellows can be... I'm more of a 412 kinda gal, myself. ;) Although, the 2 or 3 rods of 416 I bought in the late nineties had chunks of sparkle in them that were the size of snowflakes. And if I remember correctly, it had a tendency to separate the same way dark ivory does.

If you want a pure bright yellow with no orange undertones use the acid yellow. I love it!

The lemon yellow batches seem to vary a little bit and depending on how long you work them can develop orange undertones or streaks.

Thanks for the responses, you guys.

I have melted them both, putting two beads on the same mandrel and making a mental note as to which was which. They came out with just the slightest variance in color. The batches that I have are soooo close. It's impossible to tell which is which if I bring rods to the bench that aren't marked.

Both yellows came in a large bulk buy of glass that I made and I was just wondering, since they seem almost identical to me, if there was something about the nature of them that I was missing.

Thanks for the great info, you two!

Lil
