View Full Interactive Version Of This Page : M20 oxycon question
I picked up my oxycon yesterday from a purchase in the garage. When I got it home, I noticed that there's a little door in the back. I opened it up & saw that there's what looks like a small (secondary?) filter & also a cylindrical foam thing. Is there anyone that can tell me what I'm supposed to do with these, if anything? I sent a PM to the person I purchased it from, but haven't heard back yet & there was no manual with it.
TIA,
That is the HEPA filter and it should be replaced periodically - I was told once a year or so. Not sure about the foam thing - can you post a pic of it?
The hepa filter is not attached to anything though. It's just rolling around loose in the back. If it is a hepa filter, any suggestions as to who carries replacements cause the one I have is dated 3/06? OK, here are the photos. The first is just a photo of the cavity in the back that these pieces were in.

So you got your M20 used? I am curious how much you paid for it. I have an M20 and love it. I purchased it new 2 years ago. You can order a new filter package for it from Respironics Inc. Phone # 1-800 345-6443, & ask them for a manual, it will tell you what to do with the filters, they should NOT be rolling around inside it.
I reccomend washing out the foam filter on the outside of the unit once a week, and replace all the filters once a year.
If you need service on the unit, they can do that too.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the info Mary. When I picked it up from her, she just said to wash the outside filter 1x/week like you said, which is what I had been doing (more or less....mostly less) with my other oxycon. I never bothered to look in the back cause my older 5 LPM unit doesn't have a back compartment. I will give them a call tomorrow.
I paid $650 for my used one. Do you think that was a fair price? I did some research & thought it was decent compared to the price for a new one. I bought my old oxycon used 1 1/2 years ago & it runs just fine so felt comfortable buying this one used.
The foam is supposed to be on the top of that little filter box, which is supposed to be inserted in that hole in the back of the compartment.
Also, your 5 lpm should have the same filter, but the compartment is likely on the side - mine are in my devilbiss and my airsep both.
I had thought that they would go over the hole somehow, but they didn't seem to fit. I'll take another look at it later when I go out there. Mary gave me the # for the company so will call them too. It's always a good idea to have the manual anyhow.
My other oxycon (Invacare) doesn't have any other compartment like that, just 2 foam filters one on each side. It's a medical use oxycon. Could that be why? Though I would think that it would have a better filter system if it's for medical use. Hmmmmm........

Look for a compartment with a small tab at the top on the invacare - it may blend in really well. On one of mine, it's the kind you have to stick a knife or something in to open. All of them should have the hepa filter inside.
The filter should go INSIDE the hole, not over/outside it. :)
Lea I think you got a good deal there. I paid $858 including the shipping almost 2 years ago, & you know nothing ever gets cheaper, (except those fancy Apple phones) so yes, I think you did good. Likely your unit was not used much, as they were willing to part with it LOL! I will not part with mine, But maybe some day get a more powerful concentrator. Your M-20 will perform about like the new M15"s, they stopped making the M-20 because it didn't perform as expected.
Cheers!
Hmmm. I thought I was getting a more powerful concentrator than the M15. I didn't realize that they had been discontinued. I hope that won't present a problem in the future with service or replacement parts.
What setting do you recommend I use it on for boro? I'm assuming I need to crank it way up. I'm very new to boro, as you can see. What setting should my propane tank be on? I just realized that this might not be the right place for these questions...please move it to the appropriate thread if necessary.
