Okay, I'll bite.....How would I use tubing? I think I saw a demo of an insideout bead once, but it seemed beyond me. Any other uses? I could make glass twisted drinking straws.. (we used to do that with glass tubing in chemistry class in high school)

I'd like to know too! Is there a tutorial anywhere? I read something about using them to encase opals, but I don't have any. What does everyone else do with the tubing?

What to do with tubing? EVERYTHING! Goblets, Candlesticks, miniature vessels, vases, Christmas Ornaments. Now, if you're used to working winding around a mandrel, it'll be a stretch, and probably you'd be as intimidated as could be trying out 25-50mm tubing.... I just got back from Lauscha & they have this small striped and colored soft glass tubing, teeny weeny diameters that wouldn't intimidate anybody, which I'd be happy to get for anyone who wants to experiment.(Hey, they even gave me a couple of catalogs with yummy pictures, FINALLY!) Actually, I have an image of cool, cute miniature vessels, made by Thomas Muller-Litz, who taught for Ron Jr. over the summer in FL, and these vessels are PERFECT as an intro to tubing for beadmakers. Wonder how I could get them posted up here. Well, if anybody wants to see these cutie vessels, contact me at firelady@gate.net and I'll email a jpeg to you. They're only a couple of inches tall. I was thinking of actually setting up a class in tubing just for the purpose of introducing beadmakers to small, fun tubing.THomas is a very entertaining teacher, and wants to come back to the States ASAP. The first hurdle, really, is to teach people how to pull points, but in a classroom situation you could pull the points for the students to help hasten the progress. Anyway, Congrats, Kristian, for colored tubing! I LOVe colored tubing of Any COE, it's just so inspiring!!! Good morning!

I've been wanting to make some Christmas ornaments ever since we had a scientific glass blower in for a demo. We made some "ornaments" using colored water and I thought these would make great presents. Is there a picture of the colored tubing somewhere? Also can you add glitter to the water before you dunk it in so that will look kinda like a snowglobe?

Anyway, Kristian, should I suppose that this is boro tubing? Or not? Chinese? Or from where? $12 a pound is an awesome price for colored tubing!!!!!!! And hey, I didn't mean to get off the subject of your tubing, nor did I mean to scare anybody off from trying larger tubing, and a big oopsy if I did!!!! It's funny, while I use mostly 15mm ande 20mm tubing, I always noticed that 25mm somehow looked nicer and went to a perfect shape a little better, don't know why. How many tubes in a pound, or would it be more like how many pounds in a tube!!??? I think colored tubing can really revolutionize the industry, both boro and soft glass. It sure saves time and money as opposed to coil-potting. Which of the colors have you used yourself, and which do you like? I saw some nice colors at Mickelsen's, can't remember which they were though. Let us know it's working characteristics as opposed to clear. Is it a little stiffer? Or does it melt like butter? Inquiring minds wanna know.

This is borosilicate tubing, and yes, it is from China. Right now, there are 3 versions of colored boro tubing, Ion Exchange Coated Clear Tubing (not that great), Precision Borosilicate (hand-pulled in the US) and Chinese made colored tubing (machine pulled).

ALL colored boro tubing that is available (except for the Ion-X and Precision) are made in China.

I have checked to make sure that the Chinese colored boro tubing that I carry is made in a safe work enviroment that does not employ children.

In the future, there will be other sizes and colors available.

I will also be carrying the Precision tubing VERY SOON. It is more pricy ($40-$60/lb) but there are so many more colors (that are not available from anybody else) that it is well worth it. As stated above, these are hand-pulled so there are more variations in sizes.

Marcie, don't worry about it. I will be contacting you soon about the Lauscha.
