Has anyone tried the Modern Options copper paint for electroforming? I'm wondering if it is conductive enough.

I was looking at that site just the other day and I had the exact same thought! The next time I'm at Michael's I'll have to take a look at it. If it isn't too expensive I might try some - although I really don't need more paint I just ordered some electroconductive paint from Safer Solutions.
But it certainly wouldn't hurt to have a back up source:razz:

I think I found these on the Dick Blick site. The copper finish is around $10.00 for four ounces. These would be a bargain if they work!

I haven't found a Canadian supplier for the safer solution and I hate the acetone in the regular stuff so I think I will give this a try. At the very least I want to try their verdegris patina, it should work great on the electroformed copper.

I looked over the infor at Modern Options and it's probably worth a try, but...
Two things popped out that temper my optimism about the product.
1. The formula is copper powder suspended in an acrylic sealant.
2. The patination formula is applied to the copper coating while it's still wet.
What this suggests to me is that once the metal coating is dry that the copper powder component of the coating is sealed beneath a layer of acrylic. If this is the case, electroforming won't happen.
That's what they told me when I contacted them a couple of years ago. It would certainly be worth asking again, as things DO change.

Thanks for the info Tink and John. The other thing I did notice about the Modern Options paint is that glass would probably have to be primed for it to stick.
Glamgalglass - according the Safer Solutions website they do ship internationally - maybe you could contact them and ask about it.
I wouldn't want to use the acetone based paint either - I love the easy clean up of the water based paint. Plus, it is very easy to reconstitute with distilled water if it dries out. I had some I hadn't used for a year and half that had dried up and I mixed it with some distilled water. I electroformed my piece yesterday and it worked perfectly.

I tried...lol it doesn't work....reactive does not mean electroconductive

Yup, I tried it a while back, doesn't work!
But the conductive paint lasts forever if you're just doing beads, so a little can goes a long long way.

I had Safer Solutions shipped to me in Saskatchewan! Two thumbs up!
