I've made it by just bundling filligrana (hope I spelled that right) and pulling out thin. For the picture below I used a rod of black filigrana, surrounded it with pieces of yellow filigrana then pull out.
Is this what you're looking for??

That was going to be my next try but before I wasted it, I wanted to make sure. Thanks so much Corvette girl!

No problem-o :)
Just cut a bunch of 1" pieces of the yellow and stack them around your rod of black filigrana. Try other colors too . . . . the only color I was disappointed in was a petroleum green, it completely disappeared when it was pulled out.
And unless you have a huge torch and a helper, don't go apeshit with adding alot of layers. I had this great idea for a cane, and once it was built I realized there was no way I could pull it out myself.

I make them by getting a lollipop on the end of a rod, smashing flat and making it rectangular. Then I use my contrast color(s) and paint those stripes on. Melt the stripes flat and then grab another rod of glass, just like pulling a twistie, and pull out (don't twist, lol). You'll get a nice cane that way and it's really quick.
Note:
You don't have to smash it flat, it can stay round. Either way.
