Does anybody know how to do this? If there is a tutorial or instructions it would be very much appreciated. My hubby wants to make slumped plates out of empty vodka and jagermeister bottles for his buddies for Christmas in the new kiln.

Thanks very much!

warmglass.com ... yup.. there method is fullproof. some glass devitries... some don't. I like going to a party, picking up a wine bottle they served wine in, slumping it and returning it to them as a thank you gift. They love it.

Some bottles have enameled lettering on them that stays and I try to use these. Most of the labels won't hold up to firing and sometimes you can glue them on the back after firing and use Bullseye Shellac to seal them with instructions to wash by hand only.

Cool thanks! I always thought you needed a form for the bottle to sit in.

Thanks for sharing that information - it actually makes it look easy. Glad that I have a bead kiln as well as other kilns for "stuff" that might need more space.

Hello! Thank you for all of the replies to this! I am embarassed to admit that we did not have time over the holidays to do this project...I haven't even used my new kiln yet! It's been so crazy, and now the kids are all home for 2 weeks.

It's definitely on the agenda for January...after I finally do it, I'll post a pic and instructions as to how I did it.

I did call JenKen and talked to one of the owners, and he gave me a "formula" with temperatures and times that I wrote down. The kiln does have to be considerable hotter...like in the 1525 degrees range. And you have to take into consideration the thickness and size of the bottles. What I'll have to do is use a bottle that is not overly heavy or thick, and break it into large pieces, and arrange the pieces into a circle/plate. A whole bottle will not fit. Absolutely nothing can be touching the sides and it needs at least a 1" margin all around. But first, of course, I need to apply several thick layers of kiln wash on the bottom of the kiln (which I need to do anyway).

I'll update when I finally do this!
