My dad has come up from Atlanta to help me put in a ventilation hood. We went to Home Depot and looked at the kitchen hoods and the strongest one was 200CFM and was pretty pricy! I read online that it needed to be 350CFM or higher. My dad said we could make one as the instructions are in the book I have but then we went to look for exhaust fans and the bathroom ones were not big enough and the one that was the closest (300CFM) would be blowing the wrong direction. So we went to the roofing fans and they were WAY too strong.... like 1200-1600 CFM. So we have no idea where to go from here. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!
Please e-mail me at preciousbeads@bellsouth.net I leave town tomorrow and will not be back till Tuesday so if anyone possibly can e-mail me today!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
Melanie
What size is the hood you are using? The advice I got was 125 cfm per square foot of hood. So, 1200 may not be too large for you.

You need "industrial" fans, not bathroom or attic fans. Visit a Grainger store, most good sized cities have them. Their fans will usually have to be ordered unless you are lucky enough to have one of their huge warehouse operations in your town.
We also need the size of your hood to properly size the fan and the distance and number of 90 degree bends you are going to need to duct the fan out the wall.

You may just want to take a little more time to plan it out (instead of trying to get something done today) and make sure you are placing the proper ventilation in place. I'm not sure what you consider expensive but, Glasscraft not only provided the proper system but they took the time to look at pictures of my basement as well as my flow of fresh air to determine everything I needed. I felt as though the knowledge they provided was well worth the total cost as I KNOW I have proper ventilation!
A+ Customer Service! (I never knew who they were until they were recommended)

I was at Home Depot yesterday, and they had a Suncourt 8" 500CFM fan in the aisle with all of the duct work. This is a slightly smaller version of the 10", 650CFM fan in the Glasscraft hood. Same brand, just smaller. Now, I don't know if that is enough CFM for you, but they did have them. You will have to connect a power cord to this one.
