DH gave me a gift certificate to zoozii's for Christmas! Man he listens well! I have been lampworking since the first of May and am really unsure of what press to buy. I will probably buy a trio - but do I want an itty bitty trio that will give me three different shapes in tiny bead? Or do I want one shape in three sizes??????

I do tend to prefer smaller beads...........I also anticipate being able to purchase another in less than six months.

Anyone want to show pics of some of their pressed beads?

I would recommend one of the Duo combinations...that way you get more press shapes for your buck!

I love the extra long kalera! I also love the straight sided lentil trio (spree)! the middle one is great! i always carefully take my mandrel when using the kalera, lay it in there and mark with a pencil the length (2 little marks) that way i know how long my glass has to be to fit the length, then i just work on the amount to fill it up. If i get too much, i just use sharp little scissors (after spot heating) and cut the glass off!!! Easy as pie! Good luck!!

p.s. i also have the crystals but i have a harder time with them although they are so pretty!

Jana:

I work on a Hot Head, and especially love the Zoozii's Trios...I have almost all of them, and the three sizes (all of which are on the smaller graduated sizes rather than the bigger) offer a lot of versatility; I especially love the Crystal!!!! Here is a YouTube video which is pretty neat and inspirational - even though it is in Dutch, you'll get the idea (and maybe get bitten by the Crystal Bug - giggle!)

Let us know what you get!

If I could only have one Zoozii it would be the straight sided lentil trio (Spree). I reach for it more often than any other and people seem to really like the shape for jewelry. I'm not sure I've ran across one I don't like, but some I use more than others. Have fun deciding!

How fun! Straight sided lentil is my absolute favorite also. I have the trio and just bought the one incher. I'd go with the trio to start with, classic shape and very forgiving to use.

Let us know what you decide.

I love the trios -- particularly when I was first learning how to use a press -- because I could move up a section if I added too much glass. It definitely helped with the learning process. I have the SSL, crystal, kalera and disk quad but the SSL is the one I use the most. It was one of the easier of the presses to learn and it is just such a versatile shape. At times, I use the smallest in each of the trios -- which I think would be the itty-bitty -- but they are quite tiny which I do find can be tough to do at times. I often find the middle size in the trio to be the easiest size to learn a press with -- not too big & not too small. I do tend to use the middle size most often as the size that I like for jewelry making as well.

But I have not yet met a Zoozii press that I don't like! I've tried the Hex Trio & Sweetie Square through the Press game and loved both those as well. So I would pick the shape that you like the most and go for it. If you like working with presses, there will be lots more Zoozii's in your future.

I use my lentil and kalera trio the most - it let's me make the supporting beads & earring sized beads to support a big focal that is free formed.

Sorry to hijack but I'm curious, I keep eying up the Zoozii SSL but haven't bought it because I already own the Cattwalk Button quad and thought shape wise they were pretty similar? am I wrong and I should give in and buy myself the SSL as well, or would I be duplicating shapes really?

I believe the two presses are very close if not exactly the same shape - with different names. I think you should really step out and try something all together different...!!!! The square and crystal shapes are sure to accomplish this (wink, nudge)

I vote for the SSL too. Whatever you do DON'T get the egg press yet! I got it as my first press and I can say it is not "beginner friendly". I have since purchased a bunch of presses and think I may be able to figure out the egg press now.

Vicki,

You are a lucky gal to have a husband like that! I have used many of the trio presses from Zooziis, and love them all, particularly the lentil. Don't forget you can use them to shape beads too - the lentil press makes some very nice looking olive shaped beads. :)

I would warn against the diamond and cube duo, which can be a bit challenging (for me, anyway). The diamond has gotten easier with practice, but the cube never seems to have straight enough edges for me.

Happy shopping!
