Haley are you sure about the hurrricane rumble? It reduces beautifully to a blue mirror finish.

Also, It boils easily so I found working it far out in the flame and then reducing is the way to go.

Great reference Hayley.

I think I have some Green envy- from before it came on the market. I was told it reduces to a red. Maybe that should be on my list for today.

so what about all the other glass that has metal effects....like ivory, and ice yellow.....turquoise......is there anyway we know which ones will react and which ones won`t?

Storm - this is only a reference for silver glass and the names, retailers and manufacturers, etc. . . . and not for reactive glass.

Hayley, I think it was Paulas (Flamedame) thread. She was selling BB as Cezanne and the maker of the glass said the formula was different.

Thanks, Cherie . . . I will add a note to the reference! I just looked at her test bead on her site and it does look different from the Cezanne I used.

I always love the glass that won't be reproduced or was a fluke. If anyone has some lying around, I will buy it. I'd love to find more.

Wow! You've really done a lot of work to figure all of this out! Thanks for posting this great list, as I'm on a pretty tight budget. When I get my hands on a rod or so, I don't want to blow it, just finding out how to use it.
Thank you very much for the comprehensive list,

Thank you everyone. I got a couple of PMs regarding getting colors on Khaos. This is what I wrote back - thought I would share it here in the thread for those who may be interested. (This is been posted lots before by others who have had success with striking silver glass.)

The trick to getting colors on all striking silver glass is to heat and cool and heat and cool repeatedly. The first heat must be so hot that the surface of the glass turns translucent (almost droopy) - then cool until the glow is gone (do the under the table test). Reheat starting at the tip of the flame (as not to thermal shock), then bring the bead in closer to normal range, you don't need to heat it as much the second (and subsequent) time. When you cool it again, it should be dark brown. If it's not, then you didn't heat it hot enough the first time (in this case heat it again to translucent).

If you have dark brown after the first strike. Cool and heat again and you should get dark purple, repeated cooling and heating yield blues, greens, yellows, sometimes reds and terra cotta depending on the glass.

You need to play with it - depending how much you heat and how much you cool, you will get different colors.

When I make the beads above - they are about 1 1/4" - by the time I finish shaping the beads, the ends are dark purple/blue. So I just have to play with heating the middle in order to get the colors out.

Lastly, when you get what everyone calls baby poo - you have overstruck the glass. Just start all over by super heating it again. Most striking glass are forgiving so you can start all over. Just remember to get dark brown on first strike!

Hope this helps.

I wanted to thank you so much for giving all this information in one place. I just got my first order of silver glass ($300.00) and then didn't want to waste any of it, saw this thread and it has been just a wonderful thing to have printed out and taped to my work area.

Hi guys. Someone just pointed me to this thread. Hayley it's a great thread! There has been so much confusion regarding renaming of colors etc and new colors coming out so fast and who is manufacturing what at any given minute!!.
Cherie,
If you bought something from me and it's not what you wanted please return it for a refund. I was told at first that the two colors were the same and then I was told they weren't. Duh. But one thing I want for my business is no one to feel like they are stuck with glass they don't want. And I have that on my website somewhere!

Hayley
THe Green Envy is a reducing color. It will reduce to blues and greens.
The Mountain Honey is a reducing color but NOT a luster like the other two. You won't get any metalic finish on it. Also, in order for the blues and greens to appear...it has to be encased.
When it's not encased it's a boro-ish milky color with streaks in it. It's cool that way too.

Jennifer (from Trautman) told me that Blue Buddha is a little different than Cezanne. We also now carry all of the Precision colors so if you are buying glass we now have GT, DH, Trautman, and Precision.

Paula - you are right, Jenny did say that about Blue Buddha and Cezanne but they are similar and she also said that they might change the name Blue Buddha to Cezanne so eliminate the confusion in the future.

Silver glass is different from batch to batch (I was told that it could be different from the first pull to the last on the batch!) - sometimes only slightly and sometime drastically as in the case of Waterfall. One batch of Waterfall is translucent blue in rod form and yields swirly blues while another batch of Waterfall is light transparent blue in rod form and reduces to a golden sheen.

Sorry for the TAG Buddha/Cezanne confusion. Here is the story:
Paul Trautman, the first guy to make colored boro rod, first made some soft-glass colors at the request of Ron Bearer and Rocio. He called them Dalai Lama, Buddha and Zeus. When Rocio sold them on her site, she renamed two of the three: Dalai Lama became Dali, Buddha became Cezanne, and the Zeus remained Zeus. Not sure why....
Then when we made more, Paul did some experiments and it came out different. Quite different. So we reclaimed the name that Rocio had discarded and called that Blue Buddha, or Buddha 2 in-house, because the first batch was sold entirely to Rocio. That is the Blue Buddha that Paula has, ABR has, Winship has, Artistry in Glass in Ontario, etc.
Now we have remade the Cezanne closer to the original. I think it's best if we just consider them to be different beasts altogether. So we have relented, and will use the name that Rocio first gave this glass.
So for you, the beadmaker, the question is, what's the difference? The Buddha is more transparent and somewhat less reactive. It gets a sheen, not a mirror surface. It is a transparent glass, and has little trouble with encasement. In fact, I like it encased. The latest batches of Cezanne vary too. Some are producing that mirror-like surface, others are more streaky like the original. This one also encases well.
I realize there are people who want to get the same effect every time, every batch, but that kinda defeats the purpose of these exciting, changeable colors, right? So many things impact the final result of a batch, that it's like Christmas for us every time a color comes out.
Thank you, Hayley, for your efforts to track all this information. If this makes anyone more confused, you can write me a PM or send a message to jenny@taglass.com.
This is Cezanne, with a mirror-like finish. 111505
This is Cezanne, a variety of effects...114704
This is an older shot of Blue Buddha 2. Sorry it's a bit fuzzy! but you can see the reduction on the right bead, no reduction on the left bead. 114703
