I have 2 Boro marbs about 1 1/4" that I need to fix some booboos.
How fast can I bring them up to a temp to work on?
thanks,
G.
Full speed. Just let them soak for about an hour before you take them out. Two hours would be better.
The only time I don't bring things up to temp full speed is when they are bigger than 1.75" or so, or if they have opals in them.

They both have opals.

I just fixed a 2.25" marble yesterday. (I was trying to get a kiln print off it.) I brought it up to temp at about 500 per hour, held it for 4 hours at 1050, and then started working it. It seemed to work ok, but I won't know about later today when it comes back out of the kiln.

I had over 24hrs. in bringing them up while waiting for answers so it worked fine.
Next time I think it will be a cold bath for them as I do not think the wear a tear on the kiln was worth it.

It really depends on the marble. Some aren't worth saving, but if you have 3-4 hours in a mega marble, then it is worth it in my opinion. Some you can just facet and call paperweights. :)
