After years of pathetically moving my plastic boxes full of jewelry tools, findings, beads, etc. from one room to another, set up my sad so called mini tabletop studio on the dining room table, I finally get to have my own office and studio. Took months to built and arrange this. And finally today I get to say, "Yes! It's done!'. \\:D/

Everything are in place and I have all I need in this one room. I thank my DH who put up with all the drama, the mind changing, become the driver, delivery man, pick up guy, handy man, everything. Poor baby... :D

The Office table and jewelry corner.
Garfield stuff everywhere. I love Garfield. :)
8230 8261

The bookshelf and photo corner.
The peanut shaped table and bookshelf are from IKEA.
Actually a lot of the stuff I bought from IKEA. They're 'fit'. :D
You can see my plastic stool under the table, I have to always have that,
not because I'm short. It's just, everything are out of my reach.. :D
8226

The torch corner, right by it is my little TV/DVD combo to watch DVD tutorials. The rods are in the glass vases, the rod supplies are on the left side of the table. I also want to point out this 'smart' lampwork table, that my DH set up for me, I hope some people find this idea useful for them. Its a "Jerker' (mind my language ) computer table from IKEA. He put an additional 2 by 4 on the top shelf, and hang a fan under it. And yes, I have the tiny propane tank below the table, when I'm not using it, I always take it out to the garage.
8228

Torch corner close up. Well, closer anyway.. :)
My DH clamped the torch to the table and put duck tape around the base. He said he wanted to wait for about 6 months until he is sure I wont change my mind on lampworking, :D , then he will attach the torch permanently on the table.

Not what I was looking for, but it is an excellent point.

You need to move that propane tank outside.

This is unfortunatly one of the biggest things that I am struggling with for my wifes studio. It unfortunatly looks like she is going to have to wait until we buy a new place.

I think what he was trying to point out is that your propane tank should never be inside the house or the garage, even when you are using it. It just isn't safe. I just had a plumber drill through the wall, and now my propane tank is outside where it is much safer. If the tank leaks, either while you are using it or while it is in the garage...well, you know what could happen.

I understand, we are working on a solution on this, since I'm using a formerly dining room, my husband refuse to put hole through the wall. So, maybe another hole in the window, I understand and appreciate the concerns and kind reminders, that means you care. Thank you!

But I dont use it a lot right now, so, the propane mostly kept in the garage, that's why there was no rush in making the additional hole. I'll remind my DH to do it sooner! Thank you guys! :D

How utterly perfectly situated this work space is, and in my estimation, inviting and WARM looking! OH, to have my own space indoors! You've got sections of the room for everything, paperwork/design, photos, beadmaking, files! Wow! And it is so charminly and cleanly decorated. I love it!

I'll be showing this to db and adding to my "someday" list of studios to emulate!

Maybe you or your hubby could cut a piece of plywood to fit the window space.

I had the same situation in my old house. Planning on selling, so I didn't want to start drilling holes and hanging permanent ducting. These pics are of my short-term solution at the old house. A piece of plywood cut to size, edged with weather stripping. Braun wall fan from Grainger and speed controller mounted. Even a little hole drilled for the fuel line. When I was done, I could just pop the plywood right out, and close the window. Flex ducting inside from fan to torch.

Since the propane was left in the bushes in the front of the house all the time, I eventually had to get a box to put the propane in. Both for safety and for protection against the really cold weather.

Hi Diane, :waving: that was the plan,

Actually the big pipe thing (what's the name, I forget) goes trough the replacement acrylic. Sorry, my English is not very good.

What I'm trying to say is, my Dh took out the real glass window and its frame and replace it with someting, I think its acrylic or something. So we can just put any holes in it as we like. And when the studio move or we move to other house, we'll pop the real glass window back.

Edna;
Your set up looks wonderful. <drool drool!>
I'm curious - is that an extractor fan sitting on your work bench? It looks so neat and small. May I ask the make of it and where you got it from?
Thanks so much :)

Dear Angela, thank you!
It does look small in the pic, eh? Its apprx. 2 feet long and 1 and a half feet wide, tho. Its got lighting and got a high and low setting. Its very quiet on low. I will post again with the maker soon. But I got it from Home Depot.

Hi Edna. Would you also tell us who makes your table with the support frame?

born2snooze
2005-11-21, 7:37pm
Hi SL Bead, its a 'Jerker (again, mind my language :D ) computer desk from IKEA. We add a slab of 2 by 4 for added support, before we hang the fan under the top shelf. Here's the link for it:

Jerker Table - IKEA USA (http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10103&storeId=12&langId=-1&productId=25905)

This table is so perfect for lampworking. Its got big area so we can put all our stuff right within our reach while working away. The white wooden 'cover' in front of the torch were added later on by a carpenter I hire. The table is super sturdy. I love it! :D

What a wonderful studio. Congrats!!!
Have you thought about covering those beautiful wood floors under your torch area?? I pop glass all the time and my floor shows the results. I was pulling a BIG cane one time and it part of it popped off and landed on the floor. I would hate to have burn marks on those beautiful floors.

.

meister1981
2005-11-28, 8:27pm
well we did specify the shipping fees and its the rate that we are charged and there is no two rates alike. We don't charge extra on shipping and I keep all cost out in the open such as handling charges. A lot of places just keep most charges hidden everywhere but like it is stated on the website every handling charge is different we charge only the materials used and calculated per inch etc to keep it to a minimum. Shipping is canada post insured for up to $100(at no extra charge) unless you specify your own favorite tranportation eg:(fedex, dhl, ups) etc etc. If you want you can e-mail me a approximate weight for an order that you might place with the address and I can quote you on the shipping.

No problem we'll be glad to help you out the best we can when you need to order more. I'm guessing that for you to get a worthwhile shipping you'd have to order over 2lbs the shipping changes at 5lbs if I'm not mistaken. As we ship more and more once we open tomorrow we'll get a good idea how to save you more$$$ on shipping

You can also buy an inexpensive welding blanket (Harbor Freight) for about $20 and lay on the floor beneath your table. It is not pretty - it actually looks like canvas, but it will save your floor. I use one under my table over carpet and clean bits of glass up periodically even thought I don't alway notice when it pops. I'm loving your table and hood set-up. I use an IKEA table too but yours is far better. Great studio. I'm envious of the space! :-)

2) how many cfms is it?

I love your studio!! It's wonderful!! Looks like you're in an old home like we are.

I am currently setting up my studio in our sunroom my DH just finished. I noticed you had a drawer unit I've been eyeballing in the Ikea catalog-it's the white drawers that are next to your computer desk. How do you like it? Does it work well? Give you much storage? I'm needing a couple of storage units for under my metals bench...

The floor covering issue someone mentioned before-I just bought one of those plasticy things you put under computer rolling chairs (you know what I mean? from an office store) I know it would still get a melty spot but will provide protection to my wood floors.

Can't wait to be able to finally post the pic of my studio one of these days!! You've got me remotivated!!

Yay Amanda, thank you for letting me know, I'm happy I re-motivated you.

Yeah the IKEA metal drawer thingy, is great. I keep most of my gemstones/jewelry items there, I got cheap plastic boxes from Dollar store to put inside the drawer (I took off its lids).

I use it more for jewelry stuff tho, if you only do lampworking, its good for tools, frits, even your glass rods, but for me personally, I like to keep my glass rods in sight, not kept in the closed drawer.

Good luck sweetie! Any questions, just post again! (((hugs))), Oh, please post pictures when your new studio done! :waving:

I got my photobox on Ebay, got it cheaper by bidding (I kept on telling people this :D), cause the retail price is about $60.00 something bucks, (its the large size). But if you are patient, just bid on the auctions, they ahve auction ending daily, I set up my budget to under $ 30.00 and when ts over my budget, I just watch another one, I think I got mine for $ 25.00! :D

Here's the link to the Ebay store. Its one of my favorite store, they have great quality items! Good luck and keep in touch! If you have more questions, post away! ((hugs)).

Hm.. They dont have the kind I bought.. This is what they have on auction for now:

Photo Cubes ([url]http://search.stores.ebay.com/amvona-com_photo-cube_W0QQfcdZ2Q)

Okay, just do a search on Ebay with keywords like: "light cube" or "light tent" or "photo cube".

Amvona dont have that kind anymore, too bad, thats the kind I would recommend. For the ligting, you can use any light basically, I use to use table lamp before. And its okay, just use the white balance on your camera when taking pics.

Just curious.

I read a whole bunch of cute remarks, but decided to skip to the end of this thread to ask a question:

Did anyone mention the danger of having the propane tank indoors? (Ummm...let me ask it again another way: Did anyone mention how really, really, dangerous it is to keep the propane tank inside)?

And secondly, what about the CFM of the fan. If it's a "stock fan," Im sure it is not sufficient to keep her safe.

The set-up is "nice-n-cozy"...but what about her safety?

Heellooooooooooooooooooooo...safety anyone?

VENTILATION BASICS (http://mikeaurelius.wordpress.com/2007/12/25/ventilation-basics-part-1/) (Read Part 2 as well. Part 3 is his own personal design)!!

Encouragement is fine. And it's cool to pat someone on the back sometime. But how come no one mentioned safety precautions? :-k

Just curious.

PS: It's weird, but I sometimes fall into the same trap. What trap? The one where I see folks doing something unsafe (because they may not know better), but decide NOT TO SAY ANYTHING because I am hoping someone else will mention it. It gets kinda old seeing the same mistakes, over and over again. And I am sometimes hesitant to say something, lest I should "offend" someone. But in the end...it's cool. If I look bad, so be it. At least someone might be safer after reading something I posted. ;)
