Hi,

So in all the classes I took (all two lol) it was Propane on, light, turn on oxygen....turn off oxygen, turn off propane. I am going to be hooking things up this weekend with a concentrator not a tank like in my classes.

So do I turn on the propane, light, then open the oxygen flow, then turn on the concentrator?

I am wondering what happens if you have the valve closed on the torch to the oxygen if the concentrator is turned on? Doesn't sound like a good thing.

But then again, lighting my torch, and bending under the table to turn on the concentrator and adjust the levels makes me nervous.

How do you all do it! :) Or what should I be doing.

Thanx!

Hi Marie, here's what I do. I open my oxy valve and turn on my concentrators and let them run while I turn everything else on. Then when I'm ready to light my torch I close my oxy valve, open my gas, light and then feed the oxy back in. That way, your concentrators have a chance to get going a bit and turning the valve off while you are lighting the gas won't set off your alarms if you don't leave it closed for too long.

Hi Marie,

The concentrator has to warm up to give optimum oxygen, so it should be turned on first with oxygen knob open at the torch.

Here is my routine:

Open oxygen knob at torch (I actually leave it open always)
Turn on oxygen concentrator & let warm up
Turn off oxygen knob on torch
Open propane at tank
Open propane knob on torch with igniter ready and light.
Open oxygen knob on torch
Adjust oxy & propane to desired flame.

When shutting down I do the following:

Turn off propane tank.
Turn off propane at torch.
Turn off oxycon.

As I said, I leave oxygen knob on my torch (minor) open until ready to light it up again. I've never had a problem with this routine.

All the best,
Bonnie.
