Hi Everyone,Pam here. Mom asked me to post this to the forum. She thought it would be helpful for those of you who have a lot of silver needing cleaning:
Pollution & Scrub Free Silver Cleaning - This is by far the easiest, quickest and coolest way to clean your silver. Be aware however, this cleaning method will also remove any patina the silver has developed. (It may also cause damage to pearls and glued stones)
You will need:
boiling water
baking soda
aluminum foil
baking pan or similar container
Completely line the baking pan with aluminum foil.
Place pan in the kitchen sink.
Lay silver in foil lined pan (make sure pieces of silver do not touch one another).
Sprinkle 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda over silver.
Pour just enough boiling water in the pan to fully submerge all silver pieces. (Use caution with items containing pearls or glued stones, as the boiling water may cause damage.) The tarnish will immediately "jump" from the silver to the aluminum foil. If any tarnish remains on the silver, sprinkle in some more baking soda and wait 1-2 minutes.
When silver is tarnish free, pour water out of pan and place silver directly into sink or a plastic pan.
Rinse and dry the silver well.
