Another EXCELLENT Tutorial Series, my dear! Love it...!!! (Don't know if this little guy would stand a CHANCE being made on my Hot Head, but I might give a smaller version a try and hope those fins don't go a-flying!!!)

Thanks so much for sharing with us!

again a great job on the tut, I used your hollow bead tut and made some fish before I saw this ... I did not reshape my hollow so mine ended up looking like puffer fish :) they are in the kiln now and I'll post picks when they come out. Thanks for doing these tuts having a vidieo of a techniquie is great for me as I am a visual learner and vidieos give me many ah ha moments.

Thank you

really cute fish - I didn't have any trouble making fishes on my hot head, when that was what I was using - go for it. It's broad bushy flame is good for keeping fins warm - V

hee-hee, no pressure, huh? Ok, here it is. I have 3 more in the kiln right now and plan on making more tonight. These are very addicting! Thank you so much for your videos. I was like a kid on Christmas eve last night waiting for this little guy to finish cooking. Ok, the first fish is one I made about a year ago. I'm only posting it so you guys can see the difference the video made for me.

I was just telling my DS here how wonderful it is these days to learn lampworking with all these people, like you, who are so generous and kind, that make videos like this!

Thank you so much! I have never made a single fish before but I've been wanting to, and now I will for sure.

Sorry for my run-on sentences.

I'll take pics tomorrow and post them here. I just noticed, though, that the holes are not on the top of the fishies but they run from side to side. I'm trying to figure out how to do it so the hole goes from the top to the bottom because I want to make more fishies tomorrow. I love these two I made and so did the kids I kidnapped and brought over here for a while today. They each want one. Looks like I'll be busy for a while making fishies! They are such a challenge and yet so much fun.

I'm going to watch the videos again to see what I did wrong!

SamanthaBeads
2008-03-16, 8:48pm
ohhh well I am dying to see them! I can't imagine doing the hole the way you did! That had to be difficult! I cant wait to see though!

Samantha,

I watched the video and you are right, your way looks much easier. I always seem to do everything backwards the first time or two! It's just me.
Last night I could hardly sleep wondering how the fishies turned out. I was worried that I didn't "strike" the second, smaller fishy's lips because I used rubino. I was so afraid it was going to have transparent lips, LOL! Oh, well, I shouldn't have worried, the lips are very red. They are sitting here on my computer desk staring at me and kind of look like alien fish! Well, they ARE my first, but I'll post them soon.
I sure do appreciate you so much sharing this fun with others!

Remember now, these are my first fishies of any kind, LOL!

They really need improving but I love these anyhow.

Thanks for laughing, I mean looking!

Carol, you did a great job! I think I like the orange one the best and you will find it much easier with the hole going the other way the next time you try.

Thanks, Samantha, I can't wait to try again. I'm sure everything will be easier then with the holes on top and bottom, LOL!!!

Samantha, the orange one was the first one I did. It kept wanting to collapse but I saved the little thing. I was going to try to make it look like a firefish but maybe some other time!

SamanthaBeads
2008-03-17, 11:15am
I am not sure how you would string it with the holes that way, but I think it's wonderful you did your own thing! My first ones were no where near as nice as the ones posted...trust me. If I had pics I would post them..but I don't (thank god!)

Carol, I think they are adorable! I have 2 that didn't come out just like I wanted them, so they are now little ornaments in my real fish aquarium. One didn't stand up on it's fins, and the other I burned the clear I'd put over the white flowers. They look wonderful in the fish tank though! When I first put them in there my other fish were checking them out, lol. Here's another one I did.

Thank you Samantha, Diane and Vicki :-). I don't think I'll be stringing them, I suppose I'll just get me a couple of goldfish and put them in a fishbowl. I'm wondering how you make sure you don't have any bead release left inside that might kill the poor little goldfish?
Vicki I love your fishies, don't you just love making them?
Except..........I just tried to make another one and it went all lopsided on me. I tried to save it but it was eventually hopeless so it went into my torch water. sssssssss.
I'm having a cup of coffee and then I'm going to try again!

Hi Samantha:
Great tutorial, I am new to lampworking and because of the wonderful way you explained what you did I was able to make my first fish and I had a fun time doing it. I had a bit of problems with my pliers sticking to the glass, what do you do so they don't stick.
Thanks for your help

SamanthaBeads
2008-03-23, 8:12am
Hey Bob! Hope you will show some pics!
As far as the plyers sticking, I dont have that problem. You should be squeezing quickly and releasing. But you can always try dipping the plyers in water after you squeeze to cool the plyers down so they wont stick.

Thanks for the answer to my question. I will try to post a picture of my next one, Because it was Easter I had things to do and knew I did not have time to anneal properly but still wanted to make one knowing I could not finish it properly. I will try again and post the new one.
Thanks

I am using Effetre and my clear fins are popping off even if I keep them heated. I ,went to the Efftre site and now realize there glass coe ranges from 104-113 for clears. This could be my problem.
thanks once again.
