I have been using a chili pepper kiln for about 5 years. Its been wonderful. Lately, I don't think the temperature gauge is correct. I was thinking it would be nice to have a digital controller so I don't have to babysit when annealing. Does anyone know if its possible to add a digital controller? I know they sell the same kiln already with the controller, but haven't seen anything on adding one.

Thanks,

You can purchase a stand alone controller at many of the suppliers. Just match the amperage of the controller to your kiln. To add it all you have to do is drill a hole thru the kiln...(mind where the elements) are to install the thermocouple and plug in the kiln to the controller and the controller to the outlet.

David,

Thanks for the info. I will check around with the suppliers.

Just match the amperage of the controller to your kiln

If you can over rate the amprage of the controller to the amprage of the kiln.
Makes sure you have atleast 50% higer rated relay. So it won't burn out the relay in a short perioud of tme.

The chili pepper draws 8.2 amps (tho some sites say it draws 15 amps wich would be imposable for a kiln that small)
But Even if you went with a controller with a 40 amp relay in it you would still have a realy good leeway on the relay.
I use 40amp relays in my controllers inless some one needs some thing bigger.

A single set point controller with a 40 amp relay and would set you back $200 with shipping included.
