Hi ALL-
I am buying a timbler from Harbor freight.
Does anyone know where to find a small amount if Silicon Carbide 1000 grit? ...or is anyone interested in selling a small amount? I don't need 5-lbs. Maybe 1/4 of a pound.
Also, does anyone have a reccomendation for where to purhase stainless steel shot? Is it better with the pins or without?
Thanks!

http://www.conniefox.com/ for the shot. I got the one with pins to get in the grooves but have not used it yet as I need a little grit too........

I'm pretty sure Phoenix Art Glass sells Silicon Carbide. I don't have a tumbler, so I've never paid attention to what size she sells it in though.

Jen - before you purchase shot and silica carbide - did you get a 2 barrel tumbler? If not you cannot tumble silver in the same drum that you etched glass with. You will ruin your silver.
I see Ronnie gave you the link to Phoenix supplies. And you you have Connie's site. You don't need much - one pound would be sufficient for one of the small barrel tumblers. If you got a vibratory tumbler you will need at least 2 lbs of shot
The pins are ok - just a smaller surface to get the details - but they can be a pain too :)

Hi Jodie-
Yes, I did get the double barrel tumbler (thanks!). With the info I've read here on LE...I thought it would be a good idea to have one tumbler for polish and one for etching.
I love this place....!
I wonder if I can jsut use sand instead of the silicon carbide...

I do generally have 1000 grit in stock - I use it myself as well so I try not to run out
Kalera has talked about using sand before -you may be able to run a search as I cannot recall her results right now

Hi Jessica,
I won't even bother with the "sand". Your site is the ONLY place to order a small amount, not to mention at a reasonable price. How awsome to buy it by the ounce! Thank you - Thank you - Thank you! I've placed my order.
Add thanks to you who guided me to her website!

Glad it's there - I can't wait to see your beads!
I have found these are beads that are better sellers in person - they are hard to put down once you touch them
