I have been trying some of the color reactions that beadgoodies from LE had posted here

http://users.zoominternet.net/~beadgoodies/other//nice_effects.jpg

How do you get the elongated dots? I am able to achieve this if I put some clear on the dots, but then I dont get the color reactions and Im just not happy with the outcome of the bead. Any suggestions?

i love this chart and the color reactions..if you follow what she did it works..if i can do it anybody can..ex: start with a turquoise bead add opal yellow dots all the way around melt in..add evil purple dots in the middle of the opal yellow and melt in..it spreads out and you get this:

Mmmm...Im not getting the spreading...Im going to have to check my colors and make sure Im using the exact colors she is..I had gotten a sampler set a long time ago and labeled my own rods so I would know which is what...

Ideally I would love to take a class by Pearson, but thats not going to happen anytime soon.

Different opaque colors will spread more so than other to create the oblong dots. Also placing them fairly close will help the spread. I know opal yellow will spread, as well as greens (some times too much) I'm sure there are others. Making your base bead more in the shape of a disk, then melting into a round or donut will help pull the colors more to the ends.

Yup! Placing your dots close together around the 'belly' of your bead is what causes them to spread out and become long. As it melts, and as the glass spreads, the other dots stop it from spreading into a round dot, so it's forced to go the other way making an oval dot.

Chances are that your dots are too far away from each other, not big enough, or both.

Melt them down all at the same time, not dot-by-dot.

corina tettingers stringer control video does the basic bead. start with a black core and then put another color over it. place transparent horizontal stringers starting at the black core near the mandrel and go transversely across the bead to the black on the other side. rotate the bead and keep placing the transverse stringer. you can then put dots in the area between the transverse stringers. it also looks like they ran a stringer circumfrentially near the ends of the bead in some of the beads.
i would buy her video-it is so worth it!
