I fell in lurve with Silver Cinnamon, used it several times in combination with Hades and found that the cinnamon reacted with some fantastic colors. I got teal, dark rust, and a beautiful almost electric blue with a metallic sheen. Of course, I ran out of my first 1/4 lb rather quickly, and ordered another pound. Now, it seems that I cannot get hardly any color from it at all except for a brownish green that resembles Desert Chamelion. I have tried an oxygen rich flame, a neutral flame, and everything from slightly reduction to almost total propane, with various shades of greenish brown and burnt black as a result. Is anyone else having any luck with this glass? I really feel like I have lost my touch completely! Please help!!!]

Hmmmm, seems I have had the same experience. It is also coming out darker than the older batch. I still have some of the older rods and have run some comparisons. The glass has changed, which happens too much. I don't know why, sure gets old. Could it be that costs are getting cut and cheaper ingredients are getting used? Or the classic reason is that the Moon was in a different place. You are not losing touch. The Effetre reds drive me nuts!Susie

I have read here that there were quality control issues with the ASK colours which is why Arrow Springs no longer partners with Kugler on this glass. It is now produced under the Kugler 104 line

In my experience there has been some slight variances from batch to batch.

Well I've never had two batches of Ask glass look the same as last time. Except my Silver Rattan, I can't tell it apart from the Silver Cinnamon till it's in the flame!

Dear Carolyn,
the quality was not the reason for terminating the relationship Friedrich - Arrow Springs.
The reasons are only important for these both companies and should not be subject in any thread. Thank you for your understanding.

Desa,
I have several batches of Silver Cinnamon and have never had that problem. And I have been making a lot of beads with it lately because I am trying to decide what colors to order for my website. Is it possible that you changed something in how you torch or got the glass mized up with a different glass? Like the real Desert Chamelon?

Perhaps "inconsistency of product" is a better way to describe this particular issue. Unfortunately, the topic is going to come up whether you want it to or not.

Wasn't it Arrow Springs that stated it was a quality problem?

If I were Diana/Kugler Girl, I wouldn't go through the forum telling peeps certain topics "should not be subject in any thread" . . . coz that's exactly what they become as soon as she posts!

Diana,

Too late. It's been discussed for quite a while now.

http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86982

Folks here care and share on information, techniques and opinions abound so we all spend our hard earned money on products that we can trust. It is a very caring community and I'm proud to be a part of the LE family.

Your post did not cover you with glory in my eyes.

Thank you, everyone for your answers. I appreciate the things that you all have said.

I also appreciate the fact that we all work hard for our money, and that for most of us our glass habit comes out of the grocery budget. It is even worse, now that we have to dive into the grocery budget to feed the cars to take us to work, so that we can afford our glass.

Keep in mind, too, that Kugler, Moretti, Lausha, and all of the rest of the glass manufacturers have to deal with the increasing prices of metals that are in the glass. Like silver. Or in some cases, gold. Even the price of lead has taken a hike. That sits on their grocery budget, also.

My point is, we are all in the same sinking boat economically, and in spite of all of that, the new shipment of glass from Kugler is still top notch even if the glass varies a little. That just gives my beads more character.

BUT...Don't get me started on the oil cartel.

That being said, I wish to express my appreciation to the Kugler company for continuing to manufacture Silver Cinnamon, AKA Silvered Brown. I have worked on my technique and have discovered that the glass has to be combined with Hades to get the result that I had been getting. I believe that I was using Intense Black unknowingly, which will provide another result entirely. Really, folks, you have got to try this stuff...I am now getting aqua, teal, and this remarkable neon metallic blue when I use Silver Cinnamon with Hades and the right amount of propane.

Simply amazing. I will post a couple of pictures when Real Life releases it's death grip on my neck and I can breath again.

Wow, just came back to this thread. Thanks Diana, for attempting to censor what I post. In fact this issue has already been discussed extensively, I was merely re-reporting the information. Your efforts to limit discussion will not endear you to members of this glass forum

Hades is a black glass made by CIM, Messy Color. I get it from Frantz, but other vendors have it also.

I just love Hades! This is what I do with it: I make a small gather of Hades on the end of a mandrel, then add the amount of Silver Cinnamon that I want to for the majority of the bead. On the end, I add another gather of Hades. (I usually make a long cylinder or barrel bead, but you can make smaller beads as you wish). Then, I take a rake and rake the three layers of glass together to make swirls, etc. If there are some bare places, I might add some dots of SC or Hades to embellish the bead. Then I shape it, and at the last minute I turn down the propane and develop the colors. It is always a surprise with this glass, so don't have any preconceived plans. You get what you get, and it is amazing. If you want, you can reheat it, or strike it for different effects. Also, don't forget that you can use a reduction flame to get a metallic effect, as Hades and SC both react.

Anyway, just have fun experimenting, but above all have patience. Glass is almost sentient; it can tell when you are flustered or upset the little demon, and will sit in the flame and laugh while you try to force it into what you want it to do....

I want to recommend that you purchase the Second Silver Color How To CD from enVision to get an insight into reactive glass if you aren't sure what you are doing. It is worth it. They have directions on using any brand of glass that you can think of.
