Does any one know if soaking in coke will remove the pewter cast from Dark Silver Plum? I have some beads that I combined the DSP with some copper green. I want to remove the scum from the copper green without affecting that pewter!

Thanks!!

You know, I use a lot of Silver Plum and I don't think I have ever soaked it. No answer for you. You could use some resist on the Silver Plum (Elmer's Glue works or fingernail polish) and cover all of the Silver Plum then do the Coke soak to get the scuzz off of the Copper Green. More work, but it would at least be fairly safe!

I decided to do a little research of my own since I had a couple wonky beads that I could sacrifice to the cause of glass knowledge! I soaked the bead in coke for about 6 hours which was just enough to remove the scum from the copper green. I noticed a small decrease in the metalic sheen of the silver plum but not much! I think I could decrease the time a little and still get the effect and salvage even more of the pewter. I just couldn't bring myself to paint most of the surface of all those beads with a masking agent - it would have taken me all morning!

HI
I had that happen with some dark turquoise beads and soaked the beads in CLR cleaner. The bead ends were really bad and this worked great. Mind you I had to soak some of them for 2 days but it did the job for me.

Hope that helps you.
