That is DO I have the RIGHT gas. I have a Used Hot Head torch and was told the only gas I could use was MAPP. I haven't found a local bulk seller (too expensive to handle) but can get propylene and already have propane. Can anyone help???

Thanks...Bo Whalen

Propylene is a acceptable fuel for Hothead. It burns hotter than propane and is very similar to MAPP.

Here is in depth information about gases and Hothead torch...

You can use propane. I'm running my hothead off a bulk tank of bbq gas propane.

Dale,

Just read your article on the hothead. I was surprised at the PSI of gas running through the torch being somewhere between 60 and 100 - Particularly when the fuel/oxy torches run at around 5/10 psi mix (if I've read the other threads in the Tips section correctly).

That makes the hothead ridiculously inefficient in comparison doesn't it?

Is the psi at the torch tip controlled by the valve on the torch? Or does that limit the volume?

Maybe - maybe not.... It works pretty well for $35 considering it costs you more than $350 to setup fuel/oxygen torch...

Can't argue with that...
