I've just purchased a mega minor and am trying to set it up.

I was recently given a regulator and small torch that had previously been used with propane. I checked the hose and saw that it said 'acetylene only'. I asked around about the regulator and was told, and have read threads that acetylene regulators are fine for propane. Here's a picture of the regulator

My problem is that, when I hook my new propane hose up to the regulator there is a leak at the connection.

I checked the acetylene hose and that does not leak when hooked to the regulator.

I looked at the hoses and see that the connectors are a little different

I guess this it's whats causing the problem.
My supplier suggests I should buy the correct regulator to solve the problem.

I'm wondering if it's possible to change the connector on the hose, and if so how difficult it is to do, and how hard it is to get a good seal.

I'm open to suggestions, the regulator seems to be working fine and I don't want to have to spend more $$$'s unnecessarily.

I know that I cannot use the acetylene hose :grin:

Most likely the connector on hose is problem....

The design specification for the connector/regulator are identical for acetylene and propane.... Most regulators used in hot glass are Acetylene regulators just being used with propane. A widely accepted practice. So problem is probably not the regulator.

And YES the SITE is in error as it states the 023 is for OXYGEN, but it is actually for FUEL...
The 023 specifications error has been brought to the attention of CONCOA, but it has yet to be corrected.

The difference in hoses is that "R" rated hoses are for "acetylene only". "T" rated hoses are rated for ALL fuels (including acetylene).

The connectors on either R or T rated hoses are identical in specification (other than thread direction)

Thanks Dale, I guess the thing that has me wondering is the different hole sizes in the two connectors - the smaller one being on the acetylene hose. This was attached to a small Smith torch and now I'm wondering if the size of hole in the connector will affect the flow of gas going through it. Is it possible that my new hose has a larger hole because of the size of torch I'll be using?

And, is this difference in hole size most likely what is causing the leak?

OK! I think I have the problem narrowed down to the one connector. I turned the hose around and hooked the other end up to the regulator and didn't leak - but the leak then occurs at the torch end.

That's a relief, as I'm pretty sure that means it's the connector thats dodgy - please correct me - anyone if I'm wrong :)
