How many rods?????

I've been trawling through forums to find a general guide for how many glass rods you get in a lb approx and how many glass rods you get in a kilo.........
Some sites offer glass by the 1/4lb and some offer by the 1/4 kilo, I am finding it very hard to work out what is the best price. :doubt:

Every make of glass is too different to establish a general guide per rod. The only reasonable comparision is the per lb price. If the rod is thicker or the rod is longer, you get fewer rods per lb but regardless of rod size, the amount of glass you need is determined by weight not by number or rods.

If you need to compare glass prices per lb with those per kilo, convert one measure to the other.

Lets say the rods are 6mm-7mm and 18 inches in length you will get 12 - 15 rods per pound.

The above is average for most companies that make color. If the diameter is larger you`ll get less if its smaller you`ll get more.

I think that the conversion from pounds to kilograms is something like 2.2 pounds per kilogram, so 1/4 kilogram would be essentially a 1/2 pound of glass. Don't take my word for it--I haven't had to convert anything since I moved from Canada too many years ago to discuss...That's just the numbers that stick in my mind. Can't help with the money--that's always my question too when it's time to order glass...

More exact.... there are 1000 gms in a kilogram and there are 454 grams in 1 pound but the 1/4 kg to 1/2 a pound is close enough for what you want to do.

Thanks Lynne that is what I am going to work on from now on. I am getting so many 'stickys' on the wall to make me remember these facts, what with this conversion and what glass is what coe so i don't mix and what mandrels are mm and 0/00 etc gosh there is a lot to sink in the ole brain box maybe one day it will all stay put but methinks my three kids will keep me having to have 'stickys' everywhere!
