I have a transitional pedal with my carlisle which is a double mix (not triple), but there is a third set of ports for a triple mix on the pedal but have nothing on them (i.e. they are open). It seems like I am using WAY too much oxy when I use my outer flame. Is it possible that it is either leaking out of those ports or lowering the pressure (losing some) as it passes through the pedal? If so, what would be the best method in plugging those ports without compromising the purity and/or safety of the setup?

Any help with this would be fantastic. --v

I don't know what it's set up like, but if you can find screw on threaded caps to fit, it would stop a leak if it's connected internally. I don't see why it would be though.

Can you post a picture of the pedal?

ETA:

I thought I ought to add that triple mix torches do not require a different type of pedal than a standard mix torch, since the production models have a single feed for both the main and injector oxygen on each fire.

For a regular foot pedal designed for a two-stage torch (innerfire and one outerfire), there should be two ports going into the pedal - one from the fuel source and one from the oxygen source. There should be four outlets - two for the oxygen, with one going to the centerfire and one going to the outerfire, and two for the fuel, with one going to the centerfire and one going to the outerfire.

Now, torches like the Herbert Arnolds and the Maya burners work with compressed air (in addition to the oxygen, not in place of it). There are pedals made for those torches. It may be that if you have extra ports, it could be a port for compressed air meant for one of those torches. I know that a while back, there was a huge promotion with the Maya burners - buy a burner and get a free foot pedal. So, there are probably several of those pedals out there floating around.

While you are running the oxygen on your torch, can you reach down and feel if anything is coming out of the extra outlet(s)? If you don't feel anything, then you probably don't have a leak - or at least not from there.

Oh, and if it is one of those pedals like the one for the Maya, you don't need to do anything to the air outlet.

dont have a camera atm and I can't find any manufacturer markings but its blue with 6 ports, 4 are used, the 2 center ports are open with no attachments. Just as a test i put a large blob(gently) of non-toxic playdough on the end of each (best I could come up with), and it seemed to have a slight effect. Normally when i have lit the torch and i touch the pedal (before setting the outer fire) the center fire grows larger and I can see it burning off excess oxy let through by the outer ports, which forces me to reduce the center down a little. The previous owner said that always happens(?...). I burned for about 20 minutes off and on with the outer making a 2 pendants no larger than 3/4" diam, and it burner about 125lbs of oxy. It seems to me I should be getting a lot more out of it than that, even though that puts my tank at around 10 hrs of similar work time. Let me know if this all sounds right or if I should break it down and look for line leaks and/or send my CC in to have them check it out.
