Hello

We are busy unpacking our latest shipment. We received a "New Ivory" from Effetre. How exciting is that? We think it's pretty exciting.

But this is a very unusual "Ivory" as it's a caramel honey brown color. On our invoice it is called "New Ivory" so we are going with that!! Who are we to question the makers of fine glass rods?

Check out this bead made by Pat Frantz. It has a core bead of the new Ivory...SANDLEWOOD IVORY (591759) with dark silvered ivory applied (with some cute Marachino bumps to set the whole thing off)...On Sale NOW!!

So anyways, what do I do with it? Any experience with it? I thought I could just roll it on a hot bead then encase....but noooo, it has a mind of its own.

Hi all! I am very new to lampworking. Only been doing it for a month. I got so excited the other day when I read that I could use double helix rods on a hot head torch so I bought some. I used them yesterday and all I can was a metallic color, not the pretty different colors that I have seen. It was an assortment batch so I pretty much tried out every one of them. Here is the process that I used.
Made the bead like normal
covered the holes on the hot head torch
placed the bead back in and let it spin around a couple of times.

Did I do something wrong?

Second question. Every time I make a bead I can't get the little indentation or pucker on the sides. I can maybe get it on one side but thats it. How do I get it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

Hi all,

I know that I saw the answer to this somewhere in the world, but now I have no idea where.

How do I get the silver glass reaction that results in a thing yellow line outlining the color? I'm trying to achieve this with a silver glass on clear. Is it the wrong clear? Has my long search for a non-reactive clear finally backfired on me? Does it only work with some silver glasses? Any ideas?

Thank you!

I’m going to be in the LA area soon and should have one free day to do what I want. I was wondering if there were any places that sell lampworking supplies and the like that I should check out. I’d be interested in a place that had glass, books/videos, tools, The Flow magazine, etc. It would be great if I could see some torches too.

I googled Los Angeles glass and of course way too much stuff came up. I tried "glass supplies" instead and found Stained Glass Supply, which may or may not be interesting. I also tried Los Angeles lampwork supplies but the places that came up (Sundance, Frantz) weren’t actually near LA. I figured people on the forum here would understand what I’m after pretty well so I thought I’d see if there are any places people can recommend.

Thanks,
