A threaded stainless steel rod...I could roll beads across the length of it?

I don't see why not - it's not flat, so you'd get a slightly different shaped pattern. On the other hand - you'd get a slightly different shaped pattern!

Nice idea David!

nice idea; I use a threaded rod as a rod rest, so it's right there to try...

PatsyEmporium 2013-04-22 11:53am

I should try that too, I used a wooden stool as a rid rest and try to put the hot part off the edge to the back. The stool has some singe marks. Lol
I found some long thing pointy metal BBQ skewers at the dollar store yesterday, I used as a scraper, it's cool cause they have looped ends and I can hang them on the wall

Consider looking at old computer towers and such, the cooling fins are often in just the pattern you seek and frequently can be found for free!

Yup, e waiste recyclers or your local tec support will often have a few available.
Though its hit or miss as some have been anodized.
A cheese grater or micro plan can also leave interesting texture marks.

Ah yes I have an old computer tower handy in my closet o' junk and the other things sound cool too! Here's the rods I found some a good length and both were $5 all together https://www.dropbox.com/s/9jvnmv4utw...%2018%20PM.jpg

So here's 3 beads I made with the threaded stainless steel rods, I love them! If the bead is the right diameter, and I press/roll hard enough, it creates...hmm what would I call this shape...like sorta an hourglass-ish shape

By the way I have no idea which blue that stringer I was that I made the dots in the second photo but parts of it turned silver, wow, anyone know how that happened? I'd like to do it again lol
