Parallel Masher Question

Where can I buy a parallel masher? Like the Truly Parallel Masher? I'd like to be able to buy interchangeable plates for it, too. There are a couple places that sell the mashers, and a couple that sell the plates, but none that sell them all in one place so I can pick and choose what I'd like.

Wale Apparatus has some things, but looking at this, I'm confused as to which is the TP2 masher. https://www.waleapparatus.com/product/tp-2-masher

From the prices, that must only be the graphite.

I had the same problem, Alexis. Found these Rebecca did there & the squisher part at Salt City, but couldn't find both at the same place. But maybe I just wasn't searching correctly.

Now because my wrists aren't too great I'm debating getting this instead from Artco

www.perlenpresse.de

'Orni' (Olexander Ornes) has brass parallel mashers with changeable rotatable round plates and brass mashers with changeable large plates. And a wide range of patterns. Even plain plates.

He also does custom orders.

I for example choosed a pattern of a perlenpresse brass stamp and ordered it as a masher with round plates in 5 cm dia instead of 3 cm. The bigger dia cost me only 3 extra Euros. If you order an extra wooden handle, you could use one plate also as a stamp.

Prices for his tools are incl. German VAT. But supplies to non-EU countries are of the German VAT (19%) free!!!!!

Why, Amazon of course. lol ! https://www.amazon.com/Parallel-Mash...00KAF8ZXE?th=1 I just checked and there they are. I'd jump on it quickly if I were you.

Read the review on the Amazon TP masher. I got the TP masher years ago from Wale, and I sent it back right away. I thought it was poorly constructed and it wasn't parallel. I then got the brass masher shown above, although I got it from CoonValley but it looks exactly the same. I never had to buy another masher. It works perfectly and I use it all the time.

Have you tried calling Wale apparatus to see if they are just out of stock or what!?

Eileen 2017-07-05 7:03am

I am pretty sure I bought mine from them at the Gathering in Houston, and I love them. I have not bought the extra shapes though.

Brass does suck the heat out of the glass more. Sometimes that's a good thing (great for colors that strike better with rapid cooling and reheating, such as iris orange or multi). As long as you heat your bead back up after pressing, you should be fine.

This is what I have. Interesting what you did though, might have to look into that!

Devardi has some large adjustable tong style mashers and one of them is patterned and one is smooth, they also have the smaller square tweezer mashers. I really like them and they are very reasonable in price.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to get the ones from Amazon. I've got several "parallel" mashers that are good, but not truly parallel. And it makes a difference in uniform thickness of the pressed piece for sure, and requires extra work to make it even.

Eileen 2017-07-06 12:07pm

And the TP Mashers are a lot easier to squeeze if that is an issue.

Croft Eeusk 2017-07-06 3:26pm

Yup. I've got one of those 'BBQ' type parallel ones fastened to a work bench to make it easier to squeeze. That's fine if exactly square flat isn't needed. But if so it definitely takes a couple times squishing & still doesn't necessarily get a true parallel.

You can also get parallel mashers from Phillips Safety. For additional heads they are sold each & not pairs.

They occasionally have sales that a discount can be applied.

I have something similar to this, but bigger. I love it!! I like that I don't have to hold it while pressing a bead, and I like that I can do multiple shapes with the tool. I can't remember who makes the one I have, but it was one of the big press makers - I don't think it was Zoosii's.... Crap! I hate forgetting things.
