Copper powder
1 Attachment(s)
Anyone ever used this when making beads? Was wondering if it could be used instead of copper leaf...just roll hot bead in it or over a thin layer of it?
I can't imagine why it wouldn't work. I've done it with brass filings and gotten interesting results. Try it and show us your results!!
I figured since I have very good ventilation I might as well try it. Once I play with it I'll post some pics. I don't have the powder yet.
As fine as it appears, I'd also recommend wearing a mask.

It's also more than likely going to look like crap unless you cook the snot out of it before you encase it with clear. It would look great over some of the reactive colors like ivory/copper green/EDP, etc. At least that's what I remember from using copper leaf.
Yup, I would cook it very well before encasing.

Is that copper oxide? If so, cutting it heavily with clear frit, such as adding a small (very, very small) amount to some frit in a jar helps. Using it straight like that will most likely just get you black yuck. Using a small amount of that frit and encasing it with clear quickly will make pretty blue bubbles. I've used it for fusing, but the beads didn't turn out so well. If it's not copper oxide, never mind. lol
And it does get all over everything so contamination might be a problem. |
It says it is air automized copper. Nothing about it being copper oxide
PS...blue bubbles sound cool |
I just wonder if it would react differently than copper leaf and if so, why?
I have never heard of it, but now you have me interested, so post a thread on your findings if you use it. Do you have some, or you are thinking of getting some?
I just bought some today. I was looking for copper mesh and came across the copper powder. It instantly got my creative juices going.
Cool! It will be interesting to see what you come up with, and I know you'll come up with something fun! ;)

Copper oxide makes pretty blue bubbles? tell me more! Where does one get copper oxide? Does it work in any COE of glass?

I saw some of the red copper oxide on etsy but pottery supply should have it. I don't know if it's OK with any COE. I probably tried it with 104. Not very good results and I didn't stick with it. Messy and finicky, even fusing with it. |
thanks for the info, Rebecca
You're welcome, Kristin. Thinking about trying it?
I haven't seen the powder recently, but always curious about what I can add. I've seen some brass mesh ribbon beads over on FB and they are amazing
I found some online, there's copper carbonate and copper oxide, ill post how it goes!
That would be cool, thanks Lunesse :)
