purple striking glass
I have some glass rods that are totally clear, but when you use them they strike purple. Our very rich amethyst. Any ideas on what it is?

Do you know the COE? Could it be boro?
|
I am pretty sure it's 104COE
|
I would wonder if they are 104 as well, since they are totally clear. Some of the StrikingColor rods were very light and struck to a much darker color, but the rods still had some color. I don't think the DH glasses are that clear either. Do you have pics?
|
I do, but have no idea how to upload them from the phone. I'll go test the COE.

Beatrix, did it tend to bubble up? I have a rod that sounds like yours. I thought it was a clear then when I put the bead back in the flame it turned dark purple. I love the color but I couldn't keep it from getting a lot of little bubbles. I tried working cooler but still got bubbles.

i bet it's Rubino Oro. Sometimes the rods are clear and strike purple.
|
If they're a very pale green, they could possibly be Pandora as well
|
It's definitely 104 COE, and it's clear. No bubbles, Mina. Elizabeth, it probably is. It looks really, REALLY dark fuchsia now that it's cool

I have a rod of a DH experimental 104 that I was gifted about 5-6 years ago that is absolutely clear and strikes a purplish blue. I have no clue what it is...just has DHEXP on a handwritten label. But it's very cool! I know.....I'm no help at all.

I actually still have some of that--it's a Rubino Oro. I picked it up years ago from morettiandmore.com as "Rocky Rubino", since it was from a batch of seconds and some of the rods had a little kiln crud in them. Clear rods that struck to garnet purple, and I snatched them up because they cost a lot less than usual.

Yay! Mystery solved

Definitely sounds like rubino - one of my very faves that I stockpiled several years ago. Wonderful stuff. Doesn't like ivories unless there's another glass buffering.
