Has anyone used Dichro powder!

Hi All,
I am interested in trying the new Dichroic powder & was wondering if anyone on LE has tried it & how well they liked the results?
Thanks!

I have and I love it.

Excuse the bad photo but there is a very tiny amount of the Dichroic Extract in this bead. Photos only pick up about a third of the sparkle.

This is the first bead that I made with it. Barrel bead made of blue, rolled in the DE and then cased w/ clear.

Thanks Jennefer.

CBS sells the dichro powder, Ive also seen somewher that you can make like a paint or paste with it as well, im curious if you could do something like a oil/water dip with it

I bought mine from Val Lewis.

It is expensive and comes in a little tiny glass vial. It takes very little to add sparkly goodness to your bead. I haven't had any issues with burning or scum.

Val Lewis has it, find her on FB and ask to be added to the sparkle group---she has a gallery with hints and tips

I just bought some from Val. It was actually cheaper than on the CBS website.

It is on Amazon also.

Oh my it is a bit pricey, isn't it?

AvenueBeads 2015-02-26 11:19am

I have a handful of single jars of the splinter extract if anyone's looking. http://www.avenuebeads.com/lampwork-...dichro-extract

jellybellykelley 2015-02-28 5:24am

What is the difference between the splinter extract and the powder?

AvenueBeads 2015-02-28 10:38am

It's the same stuff, but just CBS' splinter style dichroic.

jhamilton117 2015-03-02 4:58am

Its a thicker grain of powder Jelly, more of chunks than powder

Do the people that have used both, like extract better than the fused glass dicro strips?

It depends on what effect you're after. I like them both and use them both. Check out my FB Bead Page link under my siggy for tons of pics with beads using DE. There's also an album of DE beads in the photos section there.

Jane ... on the tube beads (which are stunning!!!) did you use the extract on the exterior or is it encased? The sparkle is something I can only dream about!!

jellybellykelley 2015-03-02 7:35pm

Thanks Jayne, those are beautiful!

Jayne 2015-03-02 7:38pm

Thanks, Kelley & Angie! The tube beads in my cover photo have the DE on the exterior. Sometimes I encase it though. There are encased examples further down on the page.

Where is the best place to purchase some and what color is the most useful?

squid 2015-03-02 9:31pm

I bought mine from Joe (Avenue Beads) - his is easily the best price around, super fast shipping and awesome service :)
