I need better eyeware
 

The glasses I bought last year say Ace 202 on the box, I assumed these were a step up from plain didymiums(sp).
I'm no longer on a HotHead and switched over to my Lynx this month, still trying to get the hang of it.

I've noticed a few times the glass glows bright white in spots (like when a bubble pops) and it bothered me enough that I had to hurry and squint my eyes shut. This last time was the worst though and I actually felt pain back in my eye (going to the eye doctor tomorrow). I'm assuming it was a flash burn?

I thought these glasses were supposed to protect my eyes when working soft glass?

Anyone know what shade lens I should switch to to keep this from happening again?

you may want to try a higher grade / quality of lense but the only other maker i know off hand is auralens...ive been really happy with my glasses from them. They have a good product...you can get the ones rated for boro and just not get the dark welding shade on top of it they are the protective lense with another layer of darker material on top of the protective lense but I found just the protective lense was great the boro ones are very good....(I have a split lense that has a welders shade 3/4 on bottom and boro rated protective lense on top and through the bottom as well. its hard to explain ill try to find the link....

you can get a variety of frames but I suggest finding frames you like and sending them in to have them put in the lenses for you also if you have a prescription eyeglass you need you can have the lenses formulated and ground with those lenses...so you dont have to wear 2 pairs of glasses.

I have corneal transplants that are almost done with me and I will probably need new ones soon so I take my eyewear very seriously. I called the guys at auralens about 2-3 years ago and told them what I was looking for. They were very good about listening to my concerns and problems and sent me what they said would work the best. With my old glasses I would be in extreme eye pain after a day at the torch. Now it is a dream. I can't remember what they sold me but I would trust them they were very knowledgeable. Good luck!!!

The aura shield is a wonderful thing, especially if you need to wear glasses as well as have eye protection!

I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get prescription lenses and maybe use a welder's shade green clip-on flip ups on top of those. The bench shield is a great idea but I work pretty close to the torch and I think it'd get in the way (plus I have to wear glasses anyway).

I appreciate the links to Auralens and Phillip's. When it comes time to order I'll probably give Auralens a call but I also like to hear from glassworkers already using the different shades.

Is the glass Aurelens uses any different than that Phillips uses? I thought they both got it from the same source?
