Equipment question...
 

Does anyone have an opinion on the Inland Swaptop? It's a single base with interchangable tops that make it a grinder, flatlap or saw.... all things I've been lusting for. My studio space is really small, so I like the idea of a single piece of equipment that serves a bunch of functions. Of course if it does "everything" but does it all poorly I won't be happy with it, but if it works well enough for occasional use by a hobbiest like me it would be perfect.

I haven't seen this piece of equipment ... but usually I think you get what you pay for. I have an inland grinder and it's fine for the job i use it for!

I have individual grinders and other equipment and the inland is a little bit tinny - but may be fine for what you need it for. Give it a go and see if you like it. You can always sell it if you are displeased???

I've found mine useful. I don't use it a lot, but when I do, it works well enough. I'm sure there is better equipment, but like you, I've got limited space. My only complaint is the rheostat, the dial that controls how much electricity flows and the speed at which the motor turns, that came with the Inland Swap Top is a piece of.... ....nevermind, we're in the family room. The one that came with it only works at high speeds. It cuts in and out on me when I try to run it at lower speeds. Shawnette said she found a decently priced rheostat at Harbor Freight. I'll be replacing my rheostat soon.

I used one during Loren's class... more toy than a piece of lapidary equipment but it does work. I remember we had to get a tub to put it in because it was very messy.

Better not rely on my memory .... hopefully more people with them will check in.
