Shard Recipes ?
I'm so excited because I've just discovered how to make my own shards, thanks to Amber's excellent tutorial.. unfortunately I now need some 'shard recipes' please. I've been practising with black and clear glass.. but would like to move onto something a bit more exotic.... So... does anyone have any recipes which they might like to share with me please.

try silvered ivory. Ivory and then wrap the foil or leaf on to the "bubble" and blow like before.
|
Silvered ivory partially encased (think sloppy encasement) with any color that doesn't react with ivory is nice, too.
Jennifer Geldard has a tutorial for pattered shards: http://www.glassgirl.com/shards.html |
I'll try the silvered ivory tonight... thank you

Silver plum always makes nice shards. As I'm sure any of the silver glass will too. And raku. Maybe raku w/ intense black.

shard recipe
My favorite shards are a base of Raku cased in dark violet. Then I add a few more dots of Raku on top of the violet before I blow the shard It's really wonderful Ernie Wagner

i blew some tonight i used black base ivory and encased in aqua before i blew them and i dident blow them thin as i wanted the funky color of the aqua over the ivory to be dark..... its more like chunks .lol
|
You can always pick up the chunks and incorporate into your next shard blow.......

The best tutorial is this one by gemsinbloom. Well worth the price and lots of eye candy.

Could anyone tell me whether, when blowing shards, do I dip the hollow mandrel in bead release? In the photos I have studied, they do not appear to be dipped. I really want to try this, and I have been reading the forum about how to do it, but I wasn't sure about the bead release. Thank you for any info. Leigh

When you are all done you can quench or reheat and quench any of the leftover off. |
Thank you, Laura! I can't wait to try some (now that I know some of the steps) :-)

Just don't blow it too thin so that it bursts.
Really really fine glass like that is an inhalation hazard and you don't want it dusting your work area either. Does nasty thing to your insides. |
My Fave so far are DH silvered glasses. I love the effects I get from them!
