"Well that's highly experimental"!
Most of my time at the torch is just experimentiing, it's amazing if I can make a few of anything that matches, I have no real focus. So I decided just to go with it for a while if that's what makes me happy, why fight it!
Todays experiment class(lol) is : Can I use seed beads for frit? Care to join me? Wonder what COE those beads are? I just tried a few and it's pretty fun, seems to work! We'll see! I'm using 104, I'm guessing that's close. I can only roll the glass in the tiny ones, the bigger ones don't stick so I have to use my tweezers and drop them on. And hey, they sure make nice dots! I'm dot challenged. If you have any experiments you'd like to share, Go ahead! Hope you join me! :-P |
Hey ya, What if someone manufactured little round balls for frit! There we go!
Are you pretty sure that the seed beads will be compatible? I would love to try it, I have so many of them all over the place.
No, I'm not sure at all, that's why it's experimental! ;) So far so good! I just cool them in a fiber blanket, they seem fine! We'll see after batch annealing. My guess is that it's such a small amount of glass, it should be fine. But, these are just for me so I'm willing to experiment!
Try laying them out in a daisy pattern! I did this experiment when I was a newbie. Some were compatable some weren't. Some spread out really neat and dome will pull in. They are fun to play with.
Oh cool Jamie! I'll do that! Ya, some of them have really turned out wierd, I think I got into some plastic ones also ;) but some really work. I spent an hour making black and white eyes, I still suck at that!

Hmmm I'll look, lord knows I hang out there enough!
Really if they would sell frit in little round balls, a few sizes, I could rock and roll! Well, kind of... :) |
I am looking foreword to seeing photos of your seed bead experiments.
i tried them with fused glass. worked well. terry

The lady at the bead store where I sell my beads has been pestering me for a couple of months to re-create beads she says were made by using seed beads as frit. Guess it is time to quit doubting and start experimenting!
They do make little balls, I can't remember what theyre called though
Microbeads?
Microbeads! You can get huge packs for way cheap on amazon.
Seems to work, I wish they woudl stick better, the right kind just look like regular glass frit. I think I will especially keep this in mind for dots!
I dug through the beads that my daughter has. Mostly my rejects and newbie beads and I found some of the daisies that I made with seed beads.
The holes in the beads left little bubbles behind. These are 7+ years old and aren't annealed... so I'm going to guess that they are as compatable as you're going to get. |
Those are adorable! I love the bubble. I'm going to go try that right now.
