how to put text on fused glass
 

Does anyone know how to put text on fused glass? I saw a glass pendant that was black with a silver coat on the front. It also had names in black. They looked like they were printed from a computer and then adhered to the front of the fused glass. Is there a kind of paper you can print on that would work for this? Any info would be awesome!!!

There is a fusing photo transfer paper available. I can't remember who makes it, but you could use it for text. There is also dichroic paper that can be cut and fused.

They also have pens. I have some but haven't tried them yet. The ones I have look like a "regular" pen I got at Pacific Art Glass.

The pens are o.k. but you can get some magnificent results with the photo transfer paper. You can type up anything you want and put it in any font and have any arrangement you want with all the same size etc. Youcan get such a better array of effects with the photo transfer paper. I have tried both and in my humble opinion the paper is far superior.

Can you do a laser print transfer onto the backside of a piece of clear?

Or does it burn away?

specialty....and note that you must use a b&w laser printer that has toner with a high enough iron oxide content for it to work

Humm that means a trip to the print store. Wonder if they would have the paper. Will have to find out.

The paper is a lot of fun to fuse with. It sounds like the pendant you are talking about was made by etching some silver colored dichro then fused in the kiln.

Does anyone have a list of compatible printers to do this? I have heard HP but are there any others?

You can also buy letter stickers. Place them on a piece of glass (your choice) and then use an etch creme. Then after rinsing and drying, apply that layer to your piece and top it off with a clear. You'll have a word with great depth!

A sharpie works well too! Just tried that the other day and as long as it's thick enough, it stays on inside etching liquid. Haven't tried it with the etching creme. Might even be easier with that!
