Oracle-Black now available at Double Helix Glassworks
 

Introducing Oracle-Black, a black glass by Double Helix Glassworks.

Our Black is made in typical Double Helix fashion; with unconventional approaches to glass chemistry and using low toxicity ingredients.

Our black has smooth working characteristics, reads "darker" than some existing black glasses, does not spread excessively, and can be worked very hot without boiling.

The goal of the Oracle project is to create essential base colors that solve for the workability and chemical safety issues that occur in other common glasses.

Oracle Black, Oracle White (coming in 2018 ), Rhea, and Zephyr give 104 flame workers the option to use responsibly manufactured, low toxicity glasses in their work.

For maximum opacity, particularly in thinner applications, allow the Oracle-Black to cool slightly, then gently flame strike for about 30 seconds before annealing for 2 hours or more.

Oracle-Black appears dark blue when first worked, but becomes black in the annealer. It is reactive with silver luster colors, but non-reactive with silver striking colors.
