Re: Boro and kiln removal

I have just started doing boro. I am not currently looking for kiln striking colors temps or.... I want to know at what temp can I remove my small sculptures? I do both boro and moretti and have found a kiln schedule that will currently work for me. Allowing both glasses in the kiln with little down time.

Do your boro first - since the annealing temp for boro is 1050, on the cool down side, once you reach strain point on boro, at about 950, you can pause the kiln, or program in a hold, add moretti, and restart the annealing for moretti at that point.

Mike I am doing that. Yesterday after working boro I had to go somewhere for a few hours. The small peices in the kiln soaked for 30 min so I turned it off before I left. Upon my return the kiln was at 300-350 ish so I took them out.

So my question at what temp is it safe to remove boro from the kiln?

i'd say about 400

Sorry - missed that! Yep, 400 is good.
