Yellow stains around fine silver wire embellishments

The fine silver trails on my beads are getting yellow stains around them when I press in a brass bead press. Anyone know why this happens and how to prevent it - very annoying. Using graphite presses does not cause this problem so I'm guessing it has something to do with a reaction between the silver and the brass? Also happens when there is silver foil in the bead - even if the silver foil is encased and does not make contact with the brass - a yellow stain still appears in the area of the foil.

Interesting! I have no presses, so don't know about the brass. I was going to guess it was fuming the glass, but if it doesn't happen unless you press I don't know. I'm curious to find out though, just because I like learning new stuff.

I wonder if you are using Aether clear from Double Helix.

If I remember rightly it has a reaction to silver fumes so folks had to use Zepher instead but I am really stretching my memory here so this only qualifies as a wild ass guess.

Silver and Anise white

I've decided that I was using a rod of Anise White by mistake - thinking it was plain opaque white. I understand that the Anise White will react with the silver to make a caramel color - it was said to be an "attractive" effect - not so much in my opinion. Haven't confirmed this theory yet but I think it's likely that is what happen.

Like most things it would be attractive if that is what you are looking for.
If not then "OMG what happened to my stuff?!" would be the proper response from me too.

But that makes a lot of sense.
Anise white is really great for seeing if the fuel to oxygen balance is set properly if memory serves me.
