Silvered Ivory
Hi, Everyone,
I've been reading and learning oodles here for the last five months, but I have never seen anyone's specific directions for making silvered ivory stringers. Can someone be so kind? Thanks! David W. |
it's easy.
Take a rod of dark or light ivory, melt the tip until you got a little blob, roll the blob in silver foil or silver leaf (your choice) , burnish and melt it. Then make a stringer... Voila... silvered ivory! |
Thanks, Liz
That's so simple I can even do it! |
you're welcome... !!!
|
I do it a little differently..hope you don't mind if I add this...
I heat up the end of the rod just until it's warm enough for the silver to stick, and wrap the silver on the straight rod and burnish it in. Then I melt it into a blob and pull. I find it easier to get the silver on there evenly before you have the round shape. |
Lol!
I am using this technique too... depends how I feel!! |
I don't get the ivory hot first. I use an ivory stringer and slobber on it, OR dip it in the water cup I use for bad mandrels and unhappy bead beginnings. I have a piece of foil or leaf laid out and roll caddy-corner. Burnishheat.
Seems to work better for me. PamS |
