N 95 respirator
I know I need a N100, but could someone please tell me the diff between the two. Obviously the N95 isnt as good....but will it work until I can get a N100 here ? Also why is the N95 not as good...what will it not protect me from ???
I have hunted high and low for a N100 - going to have to order one but until it arrives should I use the N95? |
Use the N95 until your N100 gets there. The difference is in the size of the particles it filters out. The higher the number, the smaller the particle size that gets filtered out.

Thanks MIke - thats what I thought. Did some searches here but really nothing that answered if I should still go ahead and use it.
I dont fume very much but I was hoping it would be good when I work with boro and other silver glasses. |
I'm still confused as to "When" you need a respirator.
|
Use a repirator when working with enamels and with fuming or using foil and leaf. I use one every time I sit at the torch... I prefer the "better safe than sorry" approach. The 3M N100 is small and lightweight enough that I don't notice it at all.

Also when using frit, or grinding your own frit.

Are the N95 okay to help with the fumes from the silver glasses and boro glass ? Or do I need the N100 for the fumes...
|
N100 is the required respirator.
|
The N95 seems to be mainly for particulates and the N100 is for metal fumes produced from welding, brazing, cutting or other operations involving heating of metal. I would have to say wait until you have the proper protection before fuming. It's just too risky.

Its also really important to use a respirator if you are sandblasting.
