An Old Fashioned Studio Raisin'

I am so excited...Yesterday construction started on my studio!
I thought I would share some pictures.

The first picture is of the view out the front doors (of the not yet built studio). I took this pictures then left for about 3 hours to go and look at a piece of granite that I am going to use for the workbench (see discussion here)

This is what I found when I got back 3 hours later.

The guys came back this morning and started to put the roof on and install the windows and door.

Then all hell broke loose - weather wise!
The wind came from nowhere and it started sleeting and snowing sideways...yikes!

The weather has calmed down and it sounds like the guys are back to work.
I'll post more pictures as work progresses.

I am inspired to tears at least once a day when I look around at where I live and realize just how blessed I really am, for that I will be forever grateful!

What a lovely landscape for you to look at when you take a breather from torching. Looks like our weather still!

The shell of the building is done!
I really love the way it turned out. :)
The next thing is to get it wired, which is going to be complicated, we are building a new house this year and the existing electrical has to be rerouted to accommodate the new house, and studio. I'm meeting with a designer from the power company early next week, hopefully it wont be long after that I'll get power to the building. [-o<
The guys (I  them) are going to come back in a few day's and put a deck on it.

The studio is 12 ft x 16 ft or 192 sq ft...it's a nice size.

Janetlee 2008-04-09 1:15pm

That's a neat studio. Mine is same size and I love being able to do more jewelry stuff besides lampworking. Be sure and post pictures of inside.
The scenery is to "die for". You'll enjoy it.

I love your studio - can't wait to see the finished working space. I am hoping to have one separate from the house in a couple of years - but I'm not holding my breath!

lenora 2008-04-09 2:58pm

Love it! Love it! Love it!!

Allie_T 2008-04-09 10:41pm

The studio shell's looking fabulous. See if you can get more pix of that tall guy wearing the dark blue jacket (from day 1) LOL :devang:

Congratulations! Your studio looks awesome and wow, it's surrounded by beauty! I bet your beads will be bursting with creativity, having been born in such an amazing place.

Not much to see inside right now, it's totally unfinished and full of sawdust. But as soon as work starts inside I'll be sure to post some pictures.

Thanks Kelly...but I'm not sure about that, I can only hope my environment will have a positive effect on my beadmaking!

I thought I would add this picture for a little bit of perspective...lol
THIS is what I live in!
I recently (2 weeks ago) sold my 1920's craftsman style home in Portland and moved into this trailer, it's over 20 years old and gross... :-& My DH has owned this property for 20 years and has always wanted to build a house here, which hopefully we are going to do this year. In order to do that we have to live in the trailer, for me to agree to that I told him that the FIRST thing we had to build was a studio for me.
The studio is going to be way nicer then what I live in, I will probably spend more time there then the "house", and if I could figure out a way to put a full bathroom in the studio I would have no reason to go in the trailer again! lol

This is my torch set-up in the trailer...

Janice 2008-04-10 10:36am

 you have daffodils and grass!!! Wow!

Once your granite is in there it'll be great ;)

OMG Elleth the best of luck with your wonderful projects.
I was just thinking - I must get out to the workshop to clear it so that I have space for my studio when I hear a sound - I look out the window and DH is out there, no doubt with the intention of doing a bit of clearing. Yeeha! I'm on my way too.
Your studio is beautiful and your house will be too.
Well done =D>=D>=D>

Steph'sBeadCorner 2008-04-13 9:25am

Wow... what a beautiful studio and beautiful place to have a studio...

I'm chuckling at your current torch setup... because it is vastly different than your new one.

Just goes to show what we're willing to do...

Looking forward to seeing the progress..

artsyuno 2008-04-15 7:56pm

What a spectacular place. I can see why your DH would want to build there. The exterior of your studio is adorable and is giving me great inspiration. I'm in the middle of a house inspection process and if I buy, I plan to have a detached studio created in my back yard.

Yeah....the studio is being wired today!
Unfortunately I wont be able to power it up for a few weeks, we have to dig the ditch from the pole to the studio for the new service, but I can start to finish the interior. The drywall guys will be here sometime this weekend. :)

oh how wonderful!!!
