Boro dishes... anybody else made these?

I was inspired by a collection i saw and wanted to see of I could make some using my techniques... kinda digging it... these are small dishes for oil, not food, but I suppose they could be used for dipping sauces... like for sushi...

Anybody else make these here on LE? Let's see em! :D

Cornbread 2011-09-27 3:11pm

nice!!! I made a couple shot glasses with flowers in the bottoms long before we met but i could never finish the rim of the glass. I like what you've done here. sounds like a great gift for the sushi lovers! and sweet pin tool pattern. The one i have does circles...i like your straight lines!

Mr. Smiley 2011-09-27 3:39pm

I've made a few shot glasses too... never got the optics how I wanted them... it always ended up being a big shot glass when I got it big enough to see the implosion... it kinda requires a tiny implosion... the optics on these dishes is the opposite of a marble... it shrinks what's inside... kinda cool. :)

Mr. Smiley 2011-09-27 3:40pm

come to think of it, I was trying to make the bottom of the shot glass like a pendant... maybe I need to make them like the dishes, so it shrinks the image... I may have to try that again!

I know nothing about boro, but I sure know I like these!

I'm new-ish to making dishes, still working on the form and making them perfect......

THe photos go from newest dishes made to oldest dishes made, so they get progressively worse going on. :) :)

I believe to be the first to make an auto-dabbing concentrate lid and dish :)

Those are great, Brent!

I like the red blizzard (or whatever they call that stuff) and all the slyme, LePatron.

Yes, I've made a few dishes. I love how something as simple as the 'dish' has become an item to make recently... it has all appeared while I was off doing other stuff for a few years. It's pretty simple to make a tube implosion, and then just blow some of the tube into a cup... there you go, eh? What could be more grand?

Try as I might, I keep ending up making something more like half a coffee cup though. I'll post some pics sometime, I promise.

Sell as espresso cups ;)

Mr. Smiley 2011-09-28 5:04am

I made these with solid rod, not tube.... but the way you described would work well too.... :D

Great dishes man... keep at it!

Wow....loving the dishes..especially that top blue spiraling one!

Beautiful and colorful work everyone!

Juln 2011-09-29 10:46am

Sure, they don't look like tube implosions... I've thought about making some from rod, but probably what I would do is make a solid thing and then melt it onto the end of a tube. It's always fun to make items in every which way!

The ones I've been making work great for liquor. So, I guess there's not really dishes at all... except in the 'dishwasher' sort of sense of dish.

glasskat2010 2011-09-29 8:50pm

I tried to make a shot glass with a tube implosion tonight, but it went wonky on me. I turned it into a mini-ash tray. It's in the kiln now, so I'll find out in the morning how it turned out. I'll post pics tomorrow.

Where do you market this design? I think I have fallen in huge like with this piece. Actually the dish itself speaks the loudest, but the sword is also amazing. This may have to live here if you still have it, or are producing more. You can PM me, in case I forget to wander back in this room.

While the pics are awesome, having seen them in person, the pics just can't convey the depth in there. The shimmer and sparkle of the last one almost got it put in my pocket. Lucky for Brent, it was still 150 degrees and my pain threshold is low. I love this new direction. Someday soon I will have to get a sushi set for 6!

cheng076 2011-10-02 8:47am

What color is the blue?
I can never get that color and I do love it. It is particularly nice with the orange.

Yeah, um... so I'm thinking of quitting blowing glass and just getting Aussie to make stuff for me.
