What color is this?

My new favorite walk-in glass shop has a box of shorts to dig through and they sell it at 10 cents an oz. This is a piece I picked up there...

Is it rubino? It looked like a pale lavender blue until I pulled a stringer and the end struck purpley-pink.

Thanks!

Elizabeth Beads 2012-08-22 12:35pm

You are right, it is Rubino.

Angie09 2012-08-22 12:36pm

It looks like my Bullseye Fuchsia Pink.

mandyjw 2012-08-22 12:53pm

If it's 104 coe it's clear striking rubino. Loved that batch!

Yupp, this!

ElizabethCreations 2012-08-22 1:08pm

It's the same exact thing as my Bullseye too.
It's not Rubino IMHO....

JavaGirlBT 2012-08-22 1:10pm

Do they sell Czech glass? It also looks like Czech tourmaline pink.

Whatever it is, I don't think it's rubino.

Bretta 2012-08-22 1:14pm

The box of shorts is all 104 COE, so that rules out Bullseye, right? It's a particularly fat rod...maybe 10mm.

Thanks for the feedback!

Few more pics in different light...

I didn't see any Czech glass for sale there, but I suppose someone could have brought some in and used it at the torch space and left their shorts behind.

That sounds a little awkward, doesn't it..... ;)

ElizabethCreations 2012-08-22 1:25pm

If it's a fat rod, it can be Czech.
I used to have it but I recently sold that last rod. And it was fairly thick as you describe. Any how, this is a nice color.

Ravenesque 2012-08-22 5:29pm

I have some that's lavender-blue and it was called rubino (104), looks just like it so there's more confusion
It pretty much looks like a color shift, oh can't think of the name..anyways lol

Kalera 2012-08-22 6:44pm

I have some Rubino that looks just like that; some fat rods, some skinny. It's old, and the color is FANTASTIC. I love it!

Locococo 2012-08-23 4:49am

Looks exactly like my Ornela Rubinit rods.
Beautiful striking glass.

Exactly what I wanted to say...

Rareripes 2012-08-23 5:00am

Hmm..my 8 year old Rubino seems a darker pink that that rod..but I'm not familiar with the bE Fushia..so..ignore me..haha.i just came across one of my used Rubino rods last nite and it really was brighter but it could have been a diff batch I guess..

Bretta 2012-08-23 5:49am

I thought it was such a splendid color, so wanted to know what it was so I could buy more someday. I will enjoy the few bits I have of it and hope there is more in the box when I return! I did have a few pale lavender blue pieces that look the same but didn't strike at all when I tested them last night...so I guess they are ordinary lavender blue.

It's fun trying out different shorts, but the only drawback is not knowing the color if you want more! But at 10 cents an ounce...it's a fun adventure for a newbie like me, on a budget.

Thanks for all the input!

Rubino comes in every shade from completely clear to ruby red.

SuzyQ 2012-08-24 8:07am

What Elizabeth said. I have a wide variety of rubino batches and they range from clear to deep burgundy pink. I even have one batch that looks exactly like 068 and had to strike the ends to make sure I didn't mix them up.

that's my thought as well

suzanne 2012-08-25 11:50pm

That's rubino, I've had batches that look like that.

truegem 2012-08-26 6:06am

Looks like Rubino to me...

Kalera 2012-08-26 3:44pm

Here are some of my rubinos from different batches (pardon the dust!):

OK now, I am jealous! =P~

Matze 2012-08-27 3:43am

@Kalera: wow... what a collection :-)

but... none of these has that blue/lavender color in the rod, so I second that it's Ornela Rubinit aka Czech tourmaline pink

Oooh Kalera ... just yummy!!!! :)

Some of them do, it's just not readily evident because I shot the pic on a gray backdrop.

It's not that I think it's for sure not Ornela, so much as it seems much likelier to be Rubino if the shop doesn't sell Ornela.

I used to use the Tourmaline Pink quite a lot, and it's a lovely color. Just in terms of Occam's Razor, though, it seems far more likely that the mystery glass is a Rubino cone end.

Matze 2012-08-27 9:28am

one thing that just came in my mind... as far as I remember the rubinit/tourmaline does NOT go golden metallic if it's reduced like the rubino does. So you can test with your shorty

Crappy cell phone pic outdoors on white paper:

The pic is pretty bad, but you can sorta see the blue/lavender cast in two of the rods, compared to the pinkish tone of the others.

Ravenesque 2012-08-27 6:38pm

yes and as I said I have some like that also that is lavender-blue and it was sold as rubino 104. It was so long ago I have 0 idea where or when I got it.
